Critical kush mainlined

Looks great. During my short period of growing, I've grown indica-dominant strains, but now I have some "Original Amnesia" that is my first sativa-dom strain. I'm finding sativa very frustrating as it's a stretchy plant.....I have stretch going on in every direction on 2 of my 3 plants. The third is my attempt to do "Uncle Ben's topping technique" which somewhat resembles mainlining.

While I don't have the eight colas I anticipated, my UB's is much more uniform in growing vs. what I call "Pot on acid" growth of my other two sativas.

Looking at your plant has made me decide to main-line my Royal Haze sativa-dom plant that's now in seedling. You've inspired me not to hate growing sativa as much as I do now. My problem up to now is that I'm trying to grow sativa like it's indica, and it's not growing anywhere the way I expected based on my indica growing experiences.

I agree that clones don't lend themselves to mainlining due to the staggered nodes vs. the nodes of plants from seed.

Keep up the good work, it looks like you'll have an amazing plant when you're done.

Thanks lilroach, this was my first sativa dom too and it almost stretched out of the cabinet but I know to start supercropping early with this pheno now. Clones can be mainlined ok but I would recommend a mainline beginner start from seed to get the hang of it first.

My wife is growing her first indoor plant. I've suggested a mainline, this is going to be the thread I refer her to. Very good, to the point, undiluted. Great stuff. Rating it 5 stars.

Thanks Hamish, it takes about 25-30 days from seed before I make my first cut. Let me know if you want a full description of my method.

That would be brilliant mate! I would really appreciate that. I'm an old SoG dog, getting into LST now and digging it a stack. The more info the better, always!

Oh wow thats some sick growth they are gonna be monster colas, props captain!

I just pruned and bonded 2 of my CK's for 4 early because they have the same leaves as yours and i think i may have at least 2 of the sativa dom's possibly 3/3 beans.

If they stretch like yours i gotta be ready lol, i got about a half a foot to a foot more headroom then you so im using your whole thread as a guide lol, thanks a lot

keep it up!

Thanks FJG, mine definitely went a little crazy but my lighting might have caused part of it. I have a clone off this plant just over a week into flower and shes not stretching anywhere near what her mother did. The clone is under a different light setup and has no 730 nm at lights out. I put it in flower a little earlier than the mother because I was worried about the stretch and have about 20 watts less and a little more blue than the mother had plus shes on 12/12 because of no 730 nm but I'm keeping a close eye on her in case she takes off.

Although I think your journal documented your grow pretty well, I'd love to read your step-by-step if you're penning it anyway.

Barneys Farm says 50 to 60 days and it looks like they may be right. I thought this sativa pheno might take longer but maybe not. Start of day 55 tonight and took a couple pics with my USB scope, the last one is from one of the lowest small buds so it looks like the side lighting did it's job.

Funny all 3 phenotypes you listed earlier in the thread say fast blossoming, so far the stats seem about right :)

Using the 730 nm can shorten flower time too. Saturday I started taking time off the light schedule by a half hour each day, I was at 13.5/10.5 and now I'm at 11/13. This should push her to finish quicker, can't wait to try some of this.

^^^^ shortening the flower time. Lights on for less than 12 hours will shorten flower time too.

Yea,that's the badly worded point I was trying to make. Running 11/13 using 730 nm is like running 9/15 without it.

That's why I do 12/12 for the first week of flower using 730 nm before going to 13.5/10.5, it's like starting flower at 10/14 without 730 nm so it speeds up the onset of flower.

That interesting, i never even thought to shorten lights, is their any drawback at all, or the plant just grows so much more when it is striving in the dark, that the less light doesn't matter?

Whats the 730nm ? I am not up on that could you explain a bit more captain?

thanks a lot guys good info

Outdoors during sunset 730 nm light switches the plants Pfr state to Pr or active to resting, that's why most plants start to flower outside when the day has less than 14 hours of light but indoors it's 12 without 730 nm. When you add 730 nm indoors you can go up to 14 hours of light because without 730 nm the plant can take two hours to switch from Pfr to Pr. So when I run 13.5 with 730 nm I'm giving the plant 10% more light energy to store and it get's a true 10.5 of dark. At 12/12 without 730 nm the plant thinks it's only getting 10 hours of dark. The amount of dark drives flowering so by using 730 nm at 13.5 I'm getting 10% more energy to the plant and it's getting a half hour more dark. Hope that explains it, that's why some people drop their lights to 10/14 at the end of flower without 730 nm.

Wow alright, that is some great information, schooled everyday i love it. lol. I have to do some more research on this, very interesting stuff man, confusing as hell but i understand it. Thanks Captain

Do you run the light all the time once you initiate flower or just some, i see people say they only run it 5 or 6 minutes before dark or something, have you heard of this?
How many watts do you use? its just addition to your other lighting correct? placed right above?

  • You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to captainmorgan again.

I have a 10 watt 730 nm flood that runs for 10 minutes when the main lights are turned off hanging in a corner pointed toward the plant.
I have one of these but I'm about to order parts to build a couple more myself.
