Fucking Cheap Shit Coco Coir :(

Okay so im having some issues after many years using coco.... i normally buy Canna Products, and have had no issues in the past with Canna's Coco....

recently i went to my local store, only to find no Canna Coco, so i asked the guy what would be the next best thing and he pointed to a bag of PLAGRON Coco with a mixture of 70% coco and 30% perlite.... (i wasn't a fan of changing brands after loving Canna coco so much.... but i needed the coco asap and didnt want to drive elsewhere)

so fast forward to now, i transplanted my 6 week old plants (that were grown from seed) directly into this Plagron Coco, and have noticed after about 2 weeks that growth is slow and plants are looking severely underfed.. i was wondering what the fuck could be the cause, as my PPM's are around 600-700 and my PH is right at 6.0, but then i checked the run-off water, only to find it extemely low... right around PH 4.5-5.0....

I tried to use excessive amounts of my nutrient mix (600-700ppm and 6.0 PH) to flush one of the plants to try and raise the PH within the Coco, but after dumping around 50 Litres onto it without any change whatsoever... i Gave up and decided to try using straight tap water with a PH of 8.0 and had the same outcome, runoff PH was still 4.5-5.0....

TLDR :

Bought a new brand of Coco, now the ph of the runoff is coming out at PH 4.5-5.0, and plants look like theyre suffering..

Nutes used:
Canna Coco A+B at 2ml per Litre
Calmag at 0.5ml per litre
PH is 6.0

Runoff PH is super low at 4.5-5.0 PH, Flushed a 20 litre pot with around 50 litres of nutrient solution and hasnt changed a bit.

unsure what to do...

Firstly, pH runoff doesn't mean anything. Just water in at 5.9-6.3 pH with sufficient runoff, and you should be good.

Always pre-buffer coco with calmag, i use 7ml/gal and run that through before planting anything into it. You might also need to add calmag regularly to your feed if you're not already doing so.

I'm not sure what Canna's feed schedule is, but 2ml/gal seems low, maybe bump that to 3 or 4ml/gal if allowable? Calmag I'd bump that up to 2ml/gal at least.

If they’re going yellow it’s mag. Foliar feed epsom salt till the coco catches up. Same thing happens to me in cyco

It's plagron and should not need buffering.

But no idea why your testing ph run off ..
Test the EC run off if there's an issue

Flushed all plants with about 20 litres each (2ml Canna Coco A+B per Litre, along with 1ml per Litre of Cal-Mag) at PH 6.0.

Run-off looked dirty, so i flushed till they were all clear, i seem to have lost my PPM meter so couldnt get a reading on that, but i can assume flushing them should solve this issue :)

thanks guys

You really need to find your ppm meter or get a new one so you can tell what you’re feeding and what your runoff is. Don’t worry about PH of runoff just make sure your input is correct and you should be good. If your running DTW with coco I highly recommend a decent PPM/EC meter so your getting accurate readings

I have been using their cocos premium (no perlite) and I was quite happy with that. Except the springtails, which were getting crazy late flower. Plants did not bother but I did. Their customer service sucks since they wont provide neither guaranteed analysis nor formula of their nutrients, because its their secret :D they wanted to push me hard with words give more fertilizer and so on. But it was kinda long ago. Need to say their coco was rinsed, buffered and pH measured of 6,0. But you know, some batch can go wrong.
