The only model I'm familiar with is the 1kw(1000w) which the owner bitches abouthe running costs other than that he's very happy, but you are expected to replace the reflector one time per year, ...thats gotta hurt,

Ha you just remained me, one small advantage is the shadow less bulb, as Gavitas are open ended, they don't as such cast a shadow, no biggy in my book, and still not worth paying $$$ extra for ...but you may be right

Sorry to jack the thread, I have a "cheap" 1000w DE. Genesis is the name on it. But I wanna know is it worth taking my aircooled single ended hps down and putting the DE up? I can run it at 30", but with my air cooled hood I can get up close and personal. What kinda yield difference is there?

Yield would be dependent on what strain your running but you most definitely don't wanna lower light. It is very hot and in my opinion doubles a normal hps.'s output. I bought 3 different ones to compare & they all have the same light spectrum & are Very bright. Glad I switched.

Gavitas aren't some magical light. First off they run more then 1000w most of the time from what I've read. Like 1150 and now there's even a 1215De out there.

Secondly their main biT of magic comes from the fact that's there isn't a cord between the ballast and the bulb, it's just a very very highly conductive efficient connection directly between the 2. This saves on the amount of electricity that reaches the bulb(ohms law and whatnot)

see I've fallen on the other side of the fence on the DE team.. Because of all the competition of the DE rigs around $500 bucks you can now get a regular hood ballast and HORTILUX top shelf bulb for $200-250 depending on the ballast you choose.

Someday when the phosphor LED's or the LEC's finally take off in sure gravitas will come down and then I might just invest but for now they are a little to niche for my taste for the price...

Now if I had a big empty 14 foot ceiling warehouse/barn just chilling.... I'd be getting me some gavitas, the 5x5 foot print is a a 10-20% increase in yield per light alone, let alone the radiation properties and lumen intensity! They are pretty awesome but not so awesome that a good ole 1000w HORTILUX won't give it a run for its money especially at half the cost..

Dude seriously. I had 6 t5 8 bulb fixtures plugged in and they were breaking the fuse if I plugged in my vacuum. Now with my 3 DE's I have way more light and now I can run my vacuum without popping the breaker & I plugged 2 t'5 in to see how much I could push it. They are hot tho & not for everyone I agree. But they are brighter than 2+ conventional hps lights & shouldn't be looked at. I'm just sayin "gavita, I love you
