You should use just straight horticultural grade vermiculite. Most Perlite has nutes. Probably minor.

Sorry! Perlite is totally inert - it does not contain any nutrients.

Vermiculite was near impossible for me to get where I am, I actually had to buy it in giant 8 cubic ft bags from a local vermiculite mining company

1/2 inch or less depth, I think 3/4" is too deep.
Also, why all the complexity for germination? I germ in a warm place with Jiffy Peat Pellets. I bought 50 for $1.79 at WalMart.
Near 100% success is good enough for me.
All the contortions people go through to plant a seed make me smile, +1 for entertainment.

simple question simple answer. Soak your seeds in tap water for a day. plant 1/4 inch below surface. Rockwool soil,rapid rooters,all the same. keep it simple. Nature will take it's coarse.If in hydro use rapid rooters if in soil use soil.I'm not a big fan of rockwool,but,that workstoo.

I drove to 2 Walmarts, 2 Home Depots, and a Lowe's. Came up dry everywhere, it became an epic quest to find a simple ingredient for my "Holy Fungi Farm" I was doing at the time. But because I have so much of it I use it for everything I can now lol.

Holy shit. That is WHY I started using vermiculite in the first place.Now I germinate directly in wet vermiculite on a seedling heat mat and clone in it using just raw local honey as a dip. Labs Dexter went on so about honey this and honey that that I tried it. In 8 days - roots 1/4" long on one and started well on the 2nd. They were tests from a male destined for doom. Now I have a bunch of clones in straight vermiculite. Look on Amazon. It's light as hell and ships cheap if not free and a little goes a long way.

Necessity is the mother of invention. I have resorted to using pumice (rinse the hell out of it because it has a lot of dust), BBQ grill lava (same thing because it's got a lot of red dust involved but it has tons of holes to hold air and nutes), fish tank gravel, Alaska Highway Department road gravel (swiped in desperation) for DWC grows. They all worked.

@Labs Dexter and his honey, got me using it too now. I saw some really exotic shit at a local Health Food store yesterday but passed on it because it was $24.00. I believe it was from the Chilean Ulmo blossoms in Chile? (or some shit like that)

I have had some success with honey as well, strangely (Possibly coincidental) local honey seems to work better for me than the store bought variety that comes in the plastic bear lol.

Raw and unfiltered.Meaning not pasteurized according to Dexter. I like trying new stuff that sounds reasonable and this did. In fact I just "welded" a split where I placed a SCROG (late but it's not my own grow) and a branch did the splits. Instead of damaging it more I dropped a glob of honey on it, laid a small fan leaf over it (still attached) and left it. 2 days later it hardly drooped and just for a few hours when it did.

I like your style. I never even thought to use a leaf as a bandage, although I had an idea about using then for "budball caps" ...never bandages.
