Since I've spent hours reading this thread I'm gonna put in my 2c..
As afew have already stated, everyone has their own style of growing, different climates, lights , strains, technic , the list goes on and on.. But the very best thing to do to gain knowledge is to do it yourself and gain some real experience and not listen to the he say she say bullshit. What works for you might not work with them. I've heard so much conflict on this subject that I'm not gonna even bother trying this personally, my stuff is A+++ crystal dank and me and my customer's love it and that's all that matters and if I wanted more buds I'd expand my op with more lights and get shit done without raping my bitch , happy growing everyone
