It turned into the holy roman empire and lasted until Bismark and the formation of modern Germany i think.

Because the citizens of Rome, a democracy, voted themselves so many benefits. they could no longer field an adequate military, and barbarians from the North could rob and plunder them with impunity.

It bifurcated. The Byzantines held on until the Ottomans pushed over the empty shell.

Now while the Austrian Kaiser and the Russian Tsar didn't actively say so, their choice of title shows that they did try to invest themselves somewhat in the tradition and legitimacy of oldest Rome. cn

what history books are you reading? rome was a republic first and after Julius Caesar had been given control it remained an autocracy. once Constantine made the state a christian state he doomed them. basically what the right wing nutjobs like tea party and the fundamental Christians in america and Islam's encroaching "don't offend me or die by sharia law" stance in european non-secular societies have been working towards, dumb down the masses with religion.

They act as if carbon dioxide just comes out and disappears. They probably believe that a hot air balloon goes up magically. Science what a hoax lol. I think they should start their car. Take a hose from the exhaust to the house, and see if that dramatically changes there environment. While they're at it take a few big whiffs.

I understand the planet goes through heating a cooling periods, but it doesn't mean that our contribution doesn't accelerate that process.

Actually, carbon dioxide is utilized by plants... Like Plankton in the seas, bushes, trees, MARIJUANA, etc... They turn it into oxygen...

So yes, it actually does disappear after a while...

it is consumed and then altered, but then again, if you looked at humans, i guess we do disappear after a while too lol. i guess it depends on the viewer.

I'll concede I should have said a republic instead of a democracy. Still, the Senate slew Ceasar when he went too far. That tradition continued, I believe. Rome "fell" when they retreated from the northern tribes across the Mediterranean, was the sense I meant. I disagree that conversion to Christianity in particular doomed them. Any religion, except submission to Islam, would have elicited the same response.

You know full well what I mean. What is in oil/fossil fuels that we burn already existed and came from the environment. Plants and animals might change it from oxygen to co2 to oxygen again, but it never just goes away. We are setting up for the next swamp dinosaur era.

This was not to suggest that it could not be created or destroyed, I meant it in reference to mankinds use of fossil fuels. We aren't creating CO2, we are just putting back into the atmosphere what once was there.

naw i knew what you meant, just saying

the carbon is used by the plant to construct new growth from carbohydrates while throwing out the oxygen.

As opposed to setting up for an ice age?

The climate changes naturally. I think our effort and money would be better spent to learn to adapt to it rather than try to prevent or alter it.
