Got a dutch? GROWING AND GROWING AND.....

Well, with two bulbs the temperature is sticking around 79F with the door cracked, and 77F with the door completely open. This is kind of a problem because I still want to add 3 more bulbs, at least. So...what I'm going to try is making the light stationary at the top, where they'll be right next to, currently 3, exhaust fans. With that, I want to put a 4 in. fan or two opposite the exhaust, pushing the hot air towards the exhaust and hopefully out of the box.

Had a little hiccup with the light schedule, which made me decide to leave it on 24/0 for the next 3-5 days, after that I'll return it to 18/6 for the rest of their veg time.
 
Alright, just put in two more bulbs about a little over an hour ago. With the door closed the heat builds up and I stopped it at 84F, could have kept going..I didn't want to find out. With the door cracked, at a steady 79. I do have pictures and just want to point out that I did remove the 9" fan as it was too strong to point at the bulbs as it was too for the plants. I replaced it with two 6" fans, one angled at the light directly in front of the intake, the other blowing through the bulbs and towards/out the door. Plants are looking great, will be getting their first dose of 5-5-5 Happy Frog soon.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the temperature drop has come back, today topped out at 67F I believe. So, that is playing a role in keeping my temps under control.

you did a great job on your grow room man :) Looks really nice. Gratz.
I also wanted to let you know that I'm OMW to drop one C99er into water :) in 96 hours hopefully I'll be having some cotyledons sticking out of soil :) Those seeds are a year old so we'll see if I was storing them properly :)
 
No, since C99er is a fast flowering sativa(49-52 days), will be vegging her for 5 weeks or so. This time I'll be escalating my grow to a new level. Which will include rooting topped part, then applying STS(silver nitrate+sodium thiosulfate) so the top will start producing pollen. After collecting the pollen, will apply it on lower branches of the topped C99 for fem seeds. Will be popping Kali mist once Cindy will go into flower. So it's going to be a real interesting grow :)
 
Sounds good. Hoping for the Pure AK to be a early finisher, some x-mas bud sure would be nice. Not doing anything special with these ladies, just some LST and getting my feeding down pat. Probably go ahead and add some Happy Frog tonight, they're about 8-9 days old.
 
Went to work, came back with an 86F box. Seems to be where it maxed out, which is pretty good for 4-40 watters in that small of an area with weak fans. I just fed them about a tbsp. each of the Happy Frog (5-5-5), and watered thoroughly, allowing a few cups of run off. One of the plants is showing some heat stress, cupping upwards and some yellowing showing as well. Will take more pictures within the next day or two, hopefully that plant will be okay.
 
Not completely sure what's happening with this plant...overwatering, underwatering, or the heat from the other day, those are about the only things I can come up with.

Newest growth may be showing the same thing, I'll be keeping my eye on this one.



Here's a few shots of the other one, nothing majorly wrong with this one, newest growth is cupping under, too much water perhaps.

Forgot to mention (since pictures are better, not the best) that the yellowing is starting at the edges, and working its way towards the middle and down.
 
hmmm that is strange. Do you feed them with anything? Does soil contain any nutes? Looks like overwatering to me. Also might be heat.. But if you say its around 80, max 86, then I doubt.. But at this age they still should be fine with 2-3 40watters i'd say.. it this is overwatering, you might need to water them with some hydroperoxide to add some oxygen into soil otherwise this might be a problem... Good luck man.
My seed also refused to pop. 60 hours and still did not crack
 
My soil is really just a simple organic soil. I did add 5-5-5 when they reached about 9 days old. Did so that any material that needs to "breakdown" has the time to do so. I did go the full dose but, that shouldn't really bother it. They are still growing, each plant has 2 bulbs above them, and of course whatever stray light they catch from those bulbs. I've decided that instead of tomorrow afternoon, I'll wait til' I get off work tomorrow night to water them.

Also, I'll be returning them to an 18/6 schedule for the remainder of the veg cycle (which is a week or two) tomorrow afternoon. Off to a rough start, hopefully I can turn it around here.
 
One is 11 days old, the other..12 days. Overwatering seemed to have been the issue. The one plant that was badly injured by my mistake is wayyy behind, but has started moving back in the right direction. The other, that just showed leaf cupping, is...umm...uncupping. I think it's been around 2.5-3 days since I last watered them, the pot seems to be pretty light again, will water within the hour.

Temperatures are staying around 81-85 with the lights on and a humidity around 40%, lights off...around mid 70's (sometimes lower) with the humidity around 40-50%.

The plant that got it the worst, I will lose her first leaves as they shrivel up. Going to go get a closer look at them now as well as water, pictures to come either tonight or tomorrow morning.
 
Glad to hear girls getting better :) I do not have a rule of how much to water, just lifting a pot everyday to see if it has any moist in it. Now you know how much is too much, figure out how much is too little then you will now how to behave :) I did try keeping plants dry until saw first signs of wilting. Then after watering, plant recovers within an hour or two and you have better feeling.
Anyway, today I was kind of impatient that this seed is not sprouting that fast. However when I checked on the calendar I see that it took the seed 4.5 days to get from nothing to this state:

After 2 hours it had already cotyledons open.

The reason why it took a bit more than half day longer to sprout was that I kept temps at 70. But once I added some cfl to keep soil surface 78-82 I started seeing very nice progress..
I am going to be creating new journal somewhere at RIU, this time with more universal name so I wouldn't need to recreate it every time I start a new run :)
Will let you know or add in a sig.

Nice. Welcome back C99. Yea, the universal name makes it a little better IMO.

Well, after getting a better look at them, they're not really showing any signs that they're thirsty, the soil seems like it still has some moisture left in it, though the top 2 inches seem dry. So, I'm going to play it safe and water when the lights come back on tonight. And to play it even safer, I'll only be using half of what I used last time. I'll take some pictures a couple hours after I water, see what things look like then.

Trying to wait out the outside temperature to drop another 5-10 degrees to add any more bulbs, though I don't have any plans to do so for at least 5 days to a week. And I don't see it dropping that much, that quickly.
 
hey dutch, I recently insulated my pots with reflective bubble wrap, and did a layer of hydroton on top of the soil and then a bubble wrap "cap" with holes in it (to allow soil to breathe)

at first I had a seedling showing the same symptoms, i checked my soil temps and they were 78...
now since i insulated them they stay from 68-73

its really good to keep a lower root zone temp because microbes will inoculate the seedling better.

also it's important to keep the bulbs as close as possible, but far enough away so that they dont heat up the soil. Once the plant grows a canopy, it will shade the pot and it will thrive even more

Interesting, root zone temp was definitely something I wasn't taking into account. My bulbs are the furthest from the plant that I want to go...roughly 3 inches. Probably even further than that from the soil. While checking my soil to see how moist it was with my index finger, I did notice that even after the first 2 inches or so, it was pretty warm. (That's what she said!)

Would the typical bubble wrap have the same effect? Or is it the reflective material of it all that does the job better?
 
Well, I watered about 2-2.5 hours ago, used about 22 fl oz worth of tap water on each. A lot less run off this time around and I even took some time and tilted the pot to get any excess out. Hopefully this does the trick for now. Got to be up for work in about 5 hours, I'll probably take the pictures then, hopefully allowing some time for them to show me they are truly doing better.

EDIT: I think the over watering issue could have been due to the drainage holes, could probably use a few more on this pot.
