Got my GE BrightStiks

Home Depot just had a huge sale on 60 watt Cree leds for .97cents each. Might tinker with a new veg light for my 2 extra seedlings. Any thoughts?
 
the 60W equivs are usually 9-10W and 700ish lumens not as high of a lumen/W as the 100W equivalents but handy for rooting clones, etc
 
They are 60 watt equivalent- 10 actual watts. 81.5 lum per watt
815 lumens total

I was thinking of doing as many as you guys recommend. 10,20,50 doesn't matter it's for a 4x4 veg space
 
the 12 spot power strip+ cheap outlet-to-socket adapters i linked above is a quick and dirty solution

buying actual plastic ceiling mount lightbulb sockets and wiring them up on a piece of plywood is cheaper but more labor intensive

the $7 led t8 bulbs all over ebay are prob another great cost effective option. those are like 2100 lumens for $7 and nice uniform coverage though you may have to stack them up tough to get it bright enough

good option if like me you have a basement full of dead t12 shop light fixtures (t8 and t12 use same ends and youre bypassing the (likely dead cheap ass inefficient magnetic) ballast so it doesnt matter)
 
that said 8 of the 5000K 1500 lumen feits on a power strip do an excellent job of lighting up that last foot of my veg tent that my 8 bulb 2x4' T5 fixture cant cover. so quick and versatile. 12 of the 800 lumens would do jsut fine though your cost goes up for socket adapters (~$1.20 ea) and the 1500 lumens throw off quite a bit of heat- i imagine watt for watt the 800 lumens throw off more.

I have a few rentals and it just so happens I bought 150$ worth. This is going to be fun.

When I first started I picked up tons of the adapters and sockets for a cfl grow. Still in a bag because i went with hps instead so I'm good on that end as well.

We are a lot alike. Never really thought of that but yes I do have tons of of dusty t8's. Thank you so much for the advice!
 
Shoulda known they would be in a circle instead of just a bunch at 90 degrees. Not sure if these will work now

Ah bummer. Yes, the forward facing PCB style me and Bobby have encountered is one of the main advantages to using these. Forward facing light. Maybe if you could put some type of DIY reflector that came like an Inch past the diodes? All white inside?
 
@BOBBY_G do you feel that these type of Cree bulb in a 360 setup would actually be more effective in a hood like what I made than the forward facing? I've noticed the Y shape of the connectors makes the forward facings not as practical for the hood shape to be reflected well. For CFLS it's great though.

I have some left over 600 hps hoods. little drilling and rigging. What do you recommend for wattage vegging 12 plants in a 5x5?

For these? They plug into a standard mogul. But use like 20-30 of them. 10 per hood? 10 watts each bulb, I'd say 300 watts is perfect
 
I was going to use the hood as a reflector. drill in some light sockets that I pulled from a Hollywood vanity mirror awhile back. I was just messing with the bulb I pulled apart and they are just on a strip sort of glued to the aluminum center. It comes off but not sure it's even worth the effort at this point.
