Sounds scary. Test on a few leaves then wait 6 hours to see what happens, I say.So I'm in a similar situation with a moderate spider-mite infestion. After heavy research and consideration, i will be spraying a solution of 1 part alcohol(91%) - 5 parts water. I with drench entire plants every 3 days for 2 weeks and i will update this thread with my result the morning after each spray. Wish me luck!
Another variation is per gallon of water about 60 ml of hydrogen peroxide 3%, 40 ml of 70 to 91% alcohol and some dish soap - a few drops.Sounds scary. Test on a few leaves then wait 6 hours to see what happens, I say.
+1Stay away from azamax, azatrol, aza-sol and any other "Azadirachtin" product. I only use that garbage on mums I won't take cuts from for a month. (at least) Do not use this on vegging plants about to go into flower. Do not use this on plants IN flower. Most people are not aware of what this stuff does to you, those that are more sensitive find it abhorrent. It causes nausea and, in advanced exposure, "Cannabis Hyperemesis." On a non-health level, it tastes gross, even when sprayed during stretch or used as a root drench before flower. Awesomely nasty stuff.
Mites are slaves to their breeding cycle. Anything that will kill mites, will wipe out the infestation if it's used every 2-3 days for 14+ days. There are no 'resistant' mites that I've come across, even though I've been told the mites I received were 'resistant' on many occasions.
I use an ounce of isopropyl alcohol in a gallon of water. KEEP ISOPROPYL OUT OF THE ROOT ZONE. Spray the plants down and then spray them down with clean water to rinse. Give it a good shake before standing the plant back upright.
Update: Alright, so i sprayed last night with the alcohol:water solution and inspected plants this morning. Everything looks good and no plant damage (nothing that i can notice). I have 2 fans running and everything seems like it has quickly evaporated. Evaporation must be the key with this method due to alcohols very quick evaporation rate. Anyhow, still am seeing mite activity so i will spray again in 3 days and try to saturate more thoroughly this time.
Oh damn, i didn't even think to cover my soil. I'll remember to do that this timeA poster in another thread who seems experienced also like ISO. He does 10% ISO and 90% RO water. He said to protect your roots with plastic and maybe also a towel. He says he sprays every 2 days for 14 days to break the life cycle.
Yeah - this is what he said too. He said stay downwind or have a fan or respirator. 70/90/91% ISO is strong stuff. The evaporation is good for mites and plants.I wear a respirator as well because the alcohol fumes are pretty intense, lol
Let us know how it is going.Update: did my second spraying of plants with 5:1 water:alcohol solution. Plants are roughly 5 weeks in flower with a spider-mite infestation. Update in the morning
