Grafting Cannabis. Multiple strains, one plant.

That definitely seems plausible. The method your describing would create a perfect disk that can be easily inserted. Both plants would have to be a similar age, I think, otherwise the gauge of the disk will be different and that might cause the graft to fail because the cambium layers wouldn't line up.
Idk bro I think it'd still work if it's maintained with a regular spray, if it can be kept alive until the graft gets plugged into the vascular system it should work?

@Woedae thanks for the link bud they look ideal, tbh I wouldn't spend money until the theory was tried by someone on canna, a clean cut is certainly an advantage though if it works in practice I'm sure they'd aide success?

Atm I'm thinking a apple coring tool, a leather punch or a shell casing with some 1200 grit run around the outside for a killer edge lol

For sure! What I'm stuck on tho is, after you make the circular punch or hole, how exactly would you get the cored cutting out? It would still be connected, right? Or is the idea to go all the way through?

Hey bud, those type of shoots aren't like build into the framework as such they're only growing from bark, I'm thinking if I push a suitable tool over it I should be able to prize the disc out, or even better the disc come away in the suitable tool and just needs poked out?

Ok that definitely makes sense. In that case, the 50 cal cartridge would probably be most ideal. Just got to knock out the primer, that's easy enough with a Phillips screwdriver or steel rod.

Definitely enjoying the thread! I'm not quite there yet with confidence, but its growing! I've gotten so blazaye with growing, it's not exciting anymore like it was way back. Mabey I lost that spark of creativity, but this thread is certainly inspiring me to experiment.

I know what you mean. Growing can be labor intensive and tedious at times. I love experimenting with the plants. Breeding is by far the most exciting thing for me.

Right there with ya. Breeding has been my focus for that gratification dopamine dump. But even that has turned into more of a chore now than enjoyment. Grafting and tissue culture is next for me. Just gotta find the right rootstock now.

Its been a while since I updated this thread. I believe my theory about the plant knuckles having extra hormones is proving to be true.

Ive had another successful Hole Insertion graft. IMG_20250317_011527488~2.jpgIMG_20250317_011637201~2.jpg

Today im attempting another graft. SSH onto my PVI male rootstock.IMG_20250317_012205985.jpgIMG_20250317_012252120.jpgIMG_20250317_012343689.jpgIMG_20250317_012527913.jpgIMG_20250317_012728523.jpgIMG_20250317_012728523~2.jpgIMG_20250317_012802834~2.jpgIMG_20250317_012917442.jpg

It takes about 2 weeks before I can notice if the graft is successfully bonding. I am also flipping the bag inside out every 3 days to prevent algae from forming.

Cheers

Subbed. Im going to graft soon so would like to come across some more tips. I found a couple new ones here already.
Let me know if you have any questions. The most effective grafting method has proven to be the hole insertion. It only works if its done to the knuckles of the plant. Ive tried doing the hole insertion on other parts of the plant, and it didn't work.

Big knuckles will form after you remove the top node. Its important that the plant tissue is firm, but not woody. Ive haven't had a successful graft with older harder plant tissue.

Very cool, this is something I’ll want to try for sure. Are you using any hormones, or just relying on proper technique and humidity ? This method is one I haven’t seen before.

Is a humidifier recomened? I'm thinking a constant low mist pumping at your root cube might be more consistent then spray 3ish times a day

Is that bit of goop some kind of glue to hold them in place?
