So a while back I got a GHS trainwreck seed from a colored mix pack. Once it entered flower it started looking very tasty. The buds were fat and covered in crystals. The only problem was, it developed a sort of chemical smell that reminded me of green tomatoes. After harvest, the taste turned out to be exactly as the smell, like a freshly broken tomato vine. Very distasteful. Despite the many many crystals, the buzz was almost non-existent. I figured I just got a bad variant and killed it off.
Since then I have reconnected with a friend who has access to some growers. He brought around some white widow a few weeks ago and although it was some beautiful bud, it had that same green tomato smell, taste, and almost no buzz.
Now I am noticing my LSD plants, 5 weeks into flower, are giving off that exact same smell. This is a scent I have never smelled before I started growing, and it's so distasteful I can't imagine anyone coveting it.
So what gives? Is this a common sign of a bad genetic expression? How can three strains smell exactly alike when grown under diff conditions, ect? My nightshade, cheese and kandy kush are all grown with the same method, and each has a heavenly smell/taste. Any thoughts?
