Greetings from South America

Hello fine people of RIU!
I decided to join because somebody suggested it was a fine forum filled with interesting people and contained a great amount of information and wisdom.
Although I do not grow or smoke marijuana, I do garden extensively and so I enjoy reading about new techniques and general knowledge when it comes to plants and edible mushrooms in general.
A little about myself: I grew up around farming/gardening and have been cultivating food crops my entire life. About a decade ago I decided to start community gardens in the most impoverished regions of my country as there was a great need to not only save rare species but teach a new generation how to grow food. Two years ago I started a program with a few biology students from the state university. Our goal was to develop organic fertilizers and pesticides in a cheap and efficient manner using locally sourced materials. So far the program has been a great success and we have made some interesting discoveries. The most interesting happened 3 months prior to the lockdown, we had made a major breakthrough with regards to pest control. When trying to develop an organic foliar feeding formula we let a sample ferment. Not wanting to waste our precious material we decided to apply it in a small fruit tree patch on the grounds of the Uni which had come to be infested with white fly, aphids and mites. The next day, to our great astonishment, the parasites were not only dying but the tree leaves had become noticeably greener and had a 'plastic' look to them. Over the next few weeks we noticed that the tree had become "armored", no bugs would approach the treated trees or their new lush growth. Sadly, the lockdown happened and we had to put our research on hold.
So here I am, with lots of time on my hands, looking to have interesting conversations with lovely people about all things plants and mushrooms.

I’m semi new here myself. I’ve found this sight is filled with people that know a LOT about growing (you’ll realize who’s advice to take after sticking around for some time). Good thing there are no trolls, bad information, or people asking for millions of dollars here. Oh wait...
