Grow Room Too Hot, Plants wilting.

the local hydro store here is great. good selection and super friendly to help you grow 1 or 2 more "tomatoes" per plant but they really price gouge. I would love to find an online store that sells just the tube with the reflector. does the light part just bolt into the other end of the tube just like a hood? Also do you know of any stores that just sell the tube? I can only find them as a set (light/tube).

Hang on, I'll goto garage and find box, I forgot exactly which one I got. It has socket already and cord, you may need cord adapter depending on your ballast. brb

Discount Hydroponics - Cool Tube Reflector this is the one I got, and my hydro store was actually $4 cheaper after you figured in shipping charges, plus helping out local community! I would say that the cool tube and inline fan were the 2 best improvements I've made to my room. Oh ya! Don't forget cord adapter if you aren't running Hydrofarm ballast... like $4 or so...... GOOD LUCK!

which inline fan did you use? I use a a 6" one from HomeDepot that was like $27. Also I have it pulling heat not pushing. You think it will make a difference?

Discount Hydroponics - Vortex Power Fans I bought the 6" 449CFM version, quiet as hell and can suck the crome off of... well you know what I mean. Figure out the cubit feet of your grow space, then figure out which fan can change the entire volume every 2-4 minutes. My room is right @ 1200 cubes, so a 400 CFM fan will change it every 3 minutes.
Added bonus, I live in the Freak'n desert! I vent outside towards the ground, Every day all 3 of my dogs are sleeping under vent, it's a nice cool breeze for them... lol Too bad I switched to having the light on @ night now. But, My timer is set up to run a few times through out the day just to refresh the air.

The whole closet/heat issue is what caused me to build some cabinets. I mean, I didn't mind cutting into doors and walls and stuff for ventilation, but the woman nixed that idea, so cabinets were my plan B.

I did a grow or two in a closet though, before buckling down and building some cabinets, using a 1000-watt HPS light. During the lights-on time, I opened the closet door and had a 20" box fan blowing steady air into the closet. That worked, but it was in no way stealthy AT ALL. The cabinets are vastly more stealthy, and no heat issues at all. Plus, they're on casters, so they're mobile, can roll 'em into a corner out of sight when anyone needs to come in. Had the satellite guy in one day, and he had no clue that he was in a room with 15 flowering plants and 30 vegging plants.

I'm not a huge fan of the HD $27 inline fans.

Not an air cooled hood? Pretty much a loosing battle. Cna only minimize the losses.

Hotter temps:
Somewhere over 90F the THC starts to degrade.
Also get fluffier/airier buds.

Cool tubes are great from all I've read lately. Almost wish I got one instead of the hood.

There are DIY cool tubes with a Pyrex Bake-A-Round (which can be had on E-bay for about 10 clams.). But really need the skinnier bulbs (400-600) the bulbous 150's, 1000's & MH restrict the flow too much. Would need a killer fan.

Keep us posted! I'd like to know the final solution (and what didn't work. hope thats a short list)

Here's a pic of one of my larger (4'wx3'dx6'h, 600w) cabinets, my smaller 400w cabinet (from Lowe's, modified to suit), and my veg cabinet (7'wx3.5'dx3.5'h). The cabinets I built myself (all except the Lowe's one) are stained oak with 'chocolate pudding' trim around the edges (dark color, to prevent light bleeding around corners). The access panels have wooden plugs on the back that slide into the openings to provide an extra 90 degree turn for light to get by.

The veg box has a 4" 150 CFM fan. All the flowering boxes, whether 400w or 600w, have 6" 440 CFM fans and matching carbon filter. All lights are air-cooled except the low-profile eight-bulb 48" T5 TekLight I use in the veg box.

what fans are you using.

Also I got the cool tube. works really well. Temps dropped from averaging high 80s to mid 90s to low 80s average was around 81.2 degrees. I also question the accuracy of my thermometer, i think it was a little lower. I can actually touch the glass tube and it just feels warm, not hot enough to hurt my hand.

only problem I have with that is because its going from a tube to a square shape back to a circle its going to create a weird vortex in the reflector area which might let the heat linger longer. It probably would be okay if you got a really good fan. Mines 160CFM (so it says) and its not that great I won't by another one untill I can get one thats 250+.

Side not does anyone know how much a humidifier will drop the temp?

this isnt what i would do for industrial heat distribution, but since you are growing in a closet it should work just fine. leave the door completely open, or generously cracked, and place a small fan to blow and circulate air around. now instead of your 3x4 or whatever shaped closet you have you increase the heat distribution to an area equivilent of your room now all you have to do is hang some bed sheets across the door you enter you room from and maybe install a lock on the door and your done. i know i did this before and it worked out great.
