Grow room ventilation question

There's two kinds of grow rooms.. a) one that's just using a regular room like a bedroom or cellar as your grow room, placing the plants in there with lights etc.
and b) the other one is by building a room inside a room.. placing wooden frames and nailing them together and then covering the sides with some white material.

question 1:
Both these rooms need ventilation my question is if you go with option B.. a room inside a room.. You ventilate out the hot air through a filter to get rid of the odor at the same time.. but now the hot air is outside the grow room which is ventilated back inside the grow room so you don't really get rid of the hot air.. at least that's how I have understood it.

I just don't understand how people this.. I've read many grow room guides but i just don't understand this part..
Some of those guides say you NEED to create a vent in your wall so you can put a vent hose through it that leads to outside of your house.
What if you live in an apartment? This is just impossible for most apartments because it will first of all be visible from the outside by the whole neighborhood and then the landlord will come and inspect what the hell you have done. Not to mention how complicated it must be to drill such a big hole through such a thick wall that probably has armored plating and things like that between. That will be some serious damage you will have to pay a lot of money to repair when moving out.. except that you will be caught probably the day your have created the hole.

question 2:
What are the cons of going with option 1? Because the pro is that you get your entire room space to work with and don't need to build a room inside a room.. is odor the only problem?

Your understanding is correct. You will have to get the exhausted air out and away from the source of intake air - take it to the attic, outside etc..

I found it much easier to go up to the attic, sheetrock is pretty easy to work with.

If you have a room that is close to what you wanted to grow in anyway, I say stick with the one room, no need to build another as then you have another "layer" of atmosphere to play with.

Kick back, take a look at what you want in the end and develope a plan of attack.

thanks!
good idea about venting it to another room instead.. still very unsure about drilling such a big hole in any wall in a apartment though..
do you think having a window open would be enough if you go with option b?

Being in an apartment has really got you buy the "short hairs". You really should not modify any of the building structure, that is trouble on a whole different plain. I find it hard to encourage such practice for the simple fact is, you do not control the access to your space 100%, and their in lies a terrible liability. But if you think you can, the window will be the best option, as long as it is stealthy to the watching eyes of the maintenance crews.

Some depends on the apartment as well. Is it half a house or an apt building? There is a way to use a window. It basically involves building a box around your window on the inside while setting it up to look like it just always has the blinds drawn. You prop the window open slightly and fit the box around the window, cut a hole in the box for your exhaust to exit and attached a flange for the duct to attach to. AC units in the window also suck warm air out while pushing the cold air in. It gets expensive running the ac this way but people do it with tents inside a room that exaust into the same room. The ac really works doing this and temps must be watched. Good Luck and Happy Growing. Never penetrate the outside of a structure you do not own.

I agree that having a dedicated room is nice....instead of a room within a room. More area would mean your lights would not heat the area as much. You could prob get away with an open window and a few fans. However being in an apartment like smallvoice pointed can be a liability. Depending on where you live and the laws you may want to consider option b, keep it modest for now unless you feel it is no worries. I would keep it stealth regardless...lights are bright, fans can be loud, smell is def. an issue. I grow in a closet connected to a room and yes the ambient temps are going to control the temps of your room inside a room. Really you want to get hot air away from your plants so exhausting into a room away from the grow should be fine. I assume no one occupies this room....you could buy a couple tents one for Veg the other for flower. That would help with the stealth issue and make things easy to pick up and go if needed.

Thanks all, really great advice here.. yeah it really sucks living in an apartment.. even the exhaust fan I have right now for me closet grow is keeping me pretty paranoid because I dont know how much it bothers the neighbors.. but no complaints so far so looks good so far
I wish I can buy a house but they are too expensive for me.

Do you have advice on how to attach a box around the window?
And do you mean wooden box or perhaps just cardboard box?
Wooden box would be pretty heavy at least.. would need to probably drill at least something like 10 big holes in the wall to attach it I would imagine but I'm not much of a carpenter or handyman.

How airtight would the box need to be?

Do you think just building a wall near the window that splits the room and then have a vent through that wall..
Wooden wall. The only problem with this would be making it airtight because I don't know how to get the frames in place since they will have to be the same length as the room.

I really do hate the fact you used anslinger for your screen name. You may find some people off put by it. Let me see if I can go dig up an example of what I'm talking about for you, exhaust wise.

The technique I'm refering to is shown about the 1:20 minute mark of the video.

Thanks, never would of thought of attaching those ledges to the wall that the box gets inserted into!

In my apartment every room including the one I would like to use as a grow room has vents in them already.
Not sure what kind of vents, they dont seem to be blowing or inhaling air at least I cant feel any breeze when I put a finger at the opening.

I just know that you have to be very careful when you are doing things that will change the airflow in your aptment like if I would block the exhaust fan in my bathroom for example then first of all the rh would get out of control and ruin the walls and secondly my neighbors vents are going to start making whistling sounds.

Do you have any advice on how the vent in my bedroom (to be grow room) would affect me or perhaps my neighbors if I made a growroom like in this video for example?
I'm worried that odor might leak to neighbors through that vent if I put it inside my growroom and if I block it out through the white plastic, that it could cause airflow problems of some kind in my apartment and perhaps that whistling noise in my neighbors.
