What a bummer way of looking at things. Fortunately most expert/experienced/master gardeners actually love to share their passion. Not really sure why you would come to this online community unless you wanted to share. Take a penny leave a penny.
Not a bummer dude... I have no problem helping people out in the forums, in fact - I generally spend much of my free time clicking the "unanswered posts" link and helping newbies with their sad plants... But honestly, when someone says to me "let me tell ya a secret about ..." I treat it as seriously as I would treat any other secrets... and my respect for the privacy of others when due is top notch... Probably why so many people are comfortable with telling me things in confidence... Some of you may see it as a bullshit thing to do, but if you told me a secret- you'd want it kept to... trade secrets included.
I love to share about my passion... but this thread is about growing secrets, and if someone taught you a secret trick, I don't expect you to give it up to anyone, including me. Common knowledge is more than enough to yield an incredible crop. Secrets are a bond much deeper than production, and the respect held between the people who know the secret is based on morals, loyalty, and trust- three attributes that hold a lot of weight in my opinions of my peers.
I'm not saying I will never give it up... knowledge is useless unless applied... Maybe one day if I ever have children, I will tell my son/daughter as well... and if I raise him/her right in any respect, s/he will feel the same about secrets, regardless of how inconsequential they might seem. If I don't have children, we'll set up a contest here at RIU
by the way... you should make it a habit to be a man and sign your negative rep that you hand out... not everyone here at RIU is on an elite account and can see who reps them. (unless you did that on accident
)
woah man, I was able to get you to divulge a lot more info than you probably should have. LOL Excuse me for trying to stir shit up. that reasoning is pretty understandable too, can't blame me for trying though. Honestly though, I dont mind trial and error as its fun fucking things up but only if you can figure out how to fix most of them.
I don't blame you at all... In fact, I encourage you to stir shit up-- It's the only way to find out who has thin skin, and who has a sense of humor about shit. Trial and error is something I dealt with for over 5 years before my father told me he has lou gehrig's disease and wants to share some of the things he's learned in his life... I haven't spoken to him since... a hard thing to do, but the right thing to do to a man who left his family to deal in a life of violence, crime, robbery, and addiction.
Honestly... that "more info" was really just sort of an explanation of my thoughts and feelings on secrets we share with those we trust... I don't want anyone to feel like I am holding anything over their head, and I certainly don't want to come off like I am saying you can't grow an incredible top quality crop without learning some secrets...
you absolutely have the power to grow a top notch high quality high potency incredible crop without knowing any secrets... like I said - look outside... what is the secret to all of those wonderful plants? Light, nutrients, air. If something with such a low IQ as the earth would have can grow magnificent plants, then so can you.
magic tricks are for pussies...
welcome to the internet, where you can find all the free music, movies, porn, and information your brain can handle...
there's no real special secrets... but there are some advanced things you would have to read a while to figure out... so - if you want to look up any of these topics for a little more information feel free...
were any of those YOUR secrets growtech? hopefully i didnt give any of your competition a leg up on your biz... you sound like a commercial grower who hates his job, most other ppl are here because this is their hobby and they are addicted to growing as much as they are addicted to smoking... thats my case anyways
enjoy your free information everyone...
A lot of people had to pay for all of that "free" you're talking about... Also, there are quite a few things that you didn't list there... None of them were any secrets I've been told... umm but I have to agree. Using a PLC has to make life 100 times easier for you... Throw in some USB based meters and a little time in any programming kit, and you're set.
I don't hate my job... I've been growing these plants since before I had hair under my arm pits, and have made a million mistakes, and found a million things that work. For whatever reason my father (who I have very little respect for) decided to reach out to me one day, and we talked a lot- and he divulged a lot of secrets that I've tried, and have taken advantage of... But regardless of how little respect I have for the man, I have enough respect for myself and morals to not give away the tricks HE learned growing up.
Strangely... the things he taught me mean a lot to me... I've never had a single bond with him aside from this... and to be honest, I'm not ready to let go of that. So maybe whenever I retire from this, if I don't have a son or daughter to pass it on to, I will pass it on to the most competent grower I know and trust.
I just think people should have more respect for the word "secret" -- Like I said... it's a bond between two people and a measurement of loyalty and trust. What does a secret mean to you if everyone knows it?
I would rather be bashed on a public forum than ever be known for giving away secrets... do you all not care about credibility? It seems every single day I find someone whos character lacks more than the day before.
Loose lips sink ships. You can tell your secrets, I'll die with mine.
(Not to be a dick, but the less secrets you tell, the more secrets you're told!)
