i got a clone off a buddy that is a month and a half already and he had it in a cut water bottle in about 2 inches of soil so i took it home and transplanted it into something bigger since its this old already should i do 12/12 with my 400 watt hps light ?

Yes but be gentle if your going from cfl to hps. (I presume you are using a cfl for now?) The transition can be stressful so give her plenty of room and lower the light a few inches a day until it is in an optimal position.

It really depends on how big it is, if it has a good root system and is atleast 8-10 inches tall then I would put it on 12-12 after giving it about a week in its new bigger pot. I switch mine to 12-12 after they are 10 inches and end up with 3 1/2-4 foot plants
