I'm not sure about the gnats or their larvae because I've only had problems with charcoal rot and another fungus when a moth larvae bored a hole and metamorphisized inside the stalk, that plant was then weakened and succombed to fungus, ANYBODY USE MILK AS AN ANTIFUNGAL ADDITIVE WHEN WATERING??!!!

For the east coast, this weather were having is roasting. It hit 100deg in the shop yesterday! It will be the same today I'm geussing. I've been watering my crop a little bit every nigh(dusk) to prevent the plants from frying. They seem to be loving the hottness. Me on the other hand am not!
I don't know for sure, but I would imagine you'd be better off watering in the early a.m. (dawn) rather than dusk. I have been in landscaping for 10 years and we always advise watering sod and shrubs then. Watering at dusk allows the water to sit too long and then causes root rot. Watering in the early a.m. lets plants get what they need and the sun then takes care of the rest. If this is not also true for weed forgive me.
