So i moved to Tyler, Tx for college from Dallas and i have no bud connect here and im having alot of trouble. Most of the people i have met only sell some bs reggie. so i decided i could try and grow my own. Alright so I've never tried to grow anything in my life and I've spent alot of time reading on how to grow on this forum but it seems like everything on here is for growing alot. I want to try growing one plant in my closet. Money is not really an issue. trying to keep it under $100 though. If someone could please tell me wut kinda light i need. and how far away i should put it. i understand the lighting cycles. also wut fert i should use. and i think the only place in tyler to get that kinda stuff is at lowes. so something i dont have to order off the internet would be nice. thanks. sry if this is a newb post.

hey man.. if you go with CFLs you want 6500k (kelvin) light spectrum, it's a blue-ish light and better for vegetative growth, then you want some 2700K CFLs for flowering, and lots of them. if your just doin one plant then u would only need a few lights... 2-3 should suffice... go to the hardware store and get some... 10$ a piece.. hang em 3-4 inches from the top of the plant and you'll be set.. when starting out i've found that if ya spend the extra coin and get some top-grade soil u wont have to worry about fertilizing for a few months.. that should give u enough time to do some more research and see whats right for u

no i do not live in a dorm. i have my own apt. so i was thinking i have 2 of each of the lights you listed above. i bought some soil but i really didn't know wut to get. one of my buddies told me not to get miracle grow(i don't know if this is true or not). but pretty much everything has miracle grow in it. so i got Sta-Green all purpose potting mix with fert. i really don't know wut im doing and i felt completely lost looking at all that stuff. okay so i have this big box and i was going to cut the top off so the light can get in and i was goin to cover the sides with foil. also when i water do i pour water into the soil or spray the actual plant? any of this sound good?

The very 1st time I grew my own was back in 1992 but I didn't start with one plant. I had about 7 or 8 of them. :-P
A friend gave me some seeds and I didn't expect them all to germinate but they did. Another friend gave me this huge manual on how to grow marijuana. It's the best thing I've ever read on growing it but then again, I didn't have internet back then either.

Anyway, I lived in a small little chalet in the country and the entire top floor was a bedroom with a huge double closet.:fire:
All I used at the time was double grow lights but I had about 8 of them. I used 'miracle grow' mix and I had enough bud for about a year or more. It was awesome having grown my very 1st batch and it was so very simple. Since all the seeds were different, I had a large variety as well.
I honestly can say that it was the 'best' year of my life. Later on the next year I planted some outside and had such a good time.

I had also just moved and did not know anyone. Hubby doesn't puff, so I was on my own.

You are very fortunate to have found this site because you can grow your own and not only save money, but it really is an interesting hobby. :weed:

You're on your way to having puffs again:clap:

well actually i live in the middle of no where. its called tyler texas. there isnt shit out here and the university i go to is fairly new(still builing shit). there is nothing out here. everything is atleast an hour away and i have no ride. i depend on my roomate for that. lol. and yes i was trying to score yesterday but i think i posted this first. idk who cares. i havent had any in about 3 weeks. its the longest ive ever went since i started. its weird. i am really interested in growing. it doesnt seem to hard, just takes a lot of time and knowledge. i dont think i can grow more than 1-3 plants. i really dont want it taking over my whole apt. i might get bigger if this is a success. and if this is a success i am goin to order a complete kit online. ive already been looking and i think i kno wut im goin to get. i have a few more questions though 1. How long do i gernanate the seeds? 2. when i plant the seeds how far away should the light be from the soil? 3. when i water do i pour it into the soil or spray the plant?

1) Germinate the seeds via wet paper towel method until the seeds crack open and a white root is visible, i like to wait until my roots are about a half inch long but as long as you can see it whenever is fine. Make sure to put them about a quarter/half inch down into the soil, loosely cover it with soil.

2) If you have a cfl light, keep it about 5 inches from the soil, as your plant grows make sure you have a way to reposition your light at a nice 5 or 6 inches from the top of the plant.

3) Just pour it in the soil for now, when your plant gets a little bigger do both - this way the leaves get a mild misting too. Make sure there is a way for excess water to drain out the bottom of your pot.

okay one more question. ive been reading that you should hydrate the soil before u put the germinated seed in, is that true? also i have a pot thats about a half a gallon deep. if i dont hydrate the soil before, about how much water should i put in it the first couple of times and how many times a week?

I never really pay atention to how my dirt in when I put in the seedling... dry maybe? I dont know...
Watering can be pretty tricky... Make sure you have a pot that has holes in the bottom so it can drain... And don't give it too much water... That is the dificult part...
I don't know how much water I use... its always diferent I just do it by eye... Anyone else have a rule?
And I only water the plants when they need to... When the leaves start looking droopy give them water... Thats the easiest way to keep from ever watering...
Overwatering is way worse than underwatering... becasue you can always add more water...

Hmm...I'm sure it would depend on how big the container is, but if you pour just a little on top of the seed and a fair amount around the edge of the container, the roots will grow out towards the water on the edges, providing a very strong and spread out root system which will be important during flowering. However if you have a smaller pot and more than one plant in it don't worry about it.

As far as nutes go, i don't usually worry about them because i mainly grow outdoors but i would imagine they are extremely important on indoor grows...ask someone who has very good knowledge on indoor grows like Fdd2blk about nutes.
