help on flowering

Okay so this is our first TTEMPT AT GROWING AND WE dont ae bout the yield or any of that we just want to do this for free bud but we have our timers set on 12/12 since thursday and were wondering if we could get growers opions on our grow

Lights need to be closer around 1-2" from leaves, ideally you need alot more if theyre to grow properly, or depending if youre going to hps or whatever for flowering..
Why are they not on a vegging light cycle, ie 18/6 or Are you growing 12/12 from seed on purpose? some do, i am one of those who do 12\12 fro seed all of the time.
