Thats interesting. What are your findings PD? Have any details for us? Would be interested in hearing more. Does anyone have any input on biochar increasing the electrical conductivity of the soil?

Trader Joe's has good charcoal too. I poke a hole in the bag, put a hose in there to wet it down and cut down on the dust. If I am ahead of the curve. I add it to the worm bin to charge it up. I think of biochar as like a coral reef. Gives a permanent home to good microbes to set up shop.

Thats what we like to see Swed! Well done. So your organic mix is beating out the botanicare by nearly half again. By all means share more of these readings with us. Whats your current organic mix comprised of?
 
I dont understand ur question.

2 days a go i top feed the volcanic rock dust on both side organic and botanicare.
So next week will see if i get higher brix .

I was only using kelp meal for my mineral on my organic mix and i was not putting enough liquid karma 1/4 strenght(liquid kelp) on botanicare side fix both issue so im crossing my finger

I just make test after i saw the brix number i wonder if my ph was off and yes!!! So i add 1/2 cup off dolomite today each pot 5 gallon.

So i give more water till i see runnof on 1 pot each side and then take readding of ph runnof. I will feed them less water when i will water all of them .

Not all my plant and not all the time only 2 pot on 27 and 1 time in the grow season i have enought areation dont wory

To anyone whose interested. I realize some people dont choose to test their soil in this manner however others may be interested in learning how ... heres some good input on the subject.

To get a soil extract we recommend a similar method as we do for testing pH so that both EC and pH measurements can be taken at the same time.

  • Gather a fresh soil sample in a plastic zip-loc bag. Try to get a profile from the top 6” of soil that the plants will grow in and take care not to contaminate the sample by touching with anything.
  • Open the bag and let it air-dry for a few hours until it is mostly dried.
  • Mix the soil in the bag to ensure a homogenous sample and then use a sieve with approximate 2mm spacing to remove any large soil clumps.
  • Measure out ½ of a cup of the dried soil and put into a glass beaker.
  • Measure out ½ of a cup of distilled water and put this into the glass beaker with the soil.
  • Stir the mixture gently for 30 seconds. Do not mix to harshly as you may destroy the humus structure and the soil may give up elements that it otherwise would not do in nature.
  • Let the soil-water suspension stand for 30 minutes.
  • Stir water gently again before taking the EC measurement.
  • Insert the EC meter into the beaker and swirl it gently around in the soil-water extract.
  • After approximately 30-60 seconds or after the EC reading has stabilized, read the digital display on your meter.
Ideal EC Levels.

It is difficult to say what your ideal EC levels will be because there are so many variables affecting the EC level that it almost depends on your individual conditions which if you analyze over time, will give you a meaningful set of data based on the performance of your crops and the changes you have made to your fertility program.


As a general guideline however, a good soil EC level will be somewhere above 200 µS/cm and 1200 µS/cm (1.2 MS/cm).

Any soils below 200 means there is not enough nutrients available to the plant and could perhaps show a sterile soil with little microbial activity.

An EC above 1200 µS/cm may indicate too much high salt fertilizer or perhaps a salinity problem from lack of drainage so keep your EC within this range.

Also watch to see how EC changes over the growing season, you may see it increase as microbes are releasing more nutrients from the soil or you may see a decrease as your crops use up all the available nutrients. Either way you can fertilize accordingly.

Yeah u can do all but really I threw my EC meter away when I went organic
1st with complex teas & ferments allot work again But product improved vastly .
Next level my custom mix a hybrid of Coot'S
It was his broad approach but a KISS Attitude that turned the corner for me
That & I found about enzymes, amino acids ,oils
I'm going whole hog on pest management now
 
Same as the organic old flush promix but my organic have 25 % compost and 1/4 cup off oyester shell a cuft that work a lot better as a ph buffer but way more expensive then powder dolomite (chaux) .5 $ 15 kilo

Organic mix did not change but i did not water them still 14 brix

Botanicare side
Brix when from 10 to 15-17 i took sample from 3 different plant leaf
Look like they love the half cup of lime
I add to give water yesterday to make the pouder lime go down .

I'd guess those of us doing this as a hobby more than anything else slappy can toss the EC meters aside in this case on the other hand those doing this as a legitimate full time business, paying their taxes, running extra large grows etc. may want to test their soils more regularly.

So the Botanicare plant is now surpassing the Brix levels in the organic mix plant after adding the half cup of lime Swed?

Keep us updated. If you can do some highly controlled studies please do.

U assume alot , I'm not against testing , but I don't know any organic grows large & small round here that use a EC meter , that's just not reliable in a rich organic soil , even with soil testing , that tells u nothing about how alive the soil is .what's with the paying taxes Crack ?

Im sharing info Im finding online and embracing others input as well.

Ive been growing since the year 2000. Have helped plenty of people over the years. Im no slouch however Im still learning and always will be.

Have no plans of testing soil in our next grow and never really have been a big soil tester either.

Ive grown hydroponically using both organic and synthetic methods and about 5 different hydroponic styles over the years.

Ive also grown in soil and using soilless mediums over the years using both organic and synthetic methods as well.

Hydroton, rock wool, peat moss, coco, perlite, organic soils Ive used them. Somebody out there just might want to test their soil... so Im sharing the link with them.

Some people are paying taxes on their marijuana grows. In other words dispensaries in Colorado who are growing their own product and then selling it to their customers pay taxes. Somebody out there is testing soil and they might appreciate that link.
