IMHO 8 inch is overkill but can be dialed down to suit your needs.... If it was my grow I'd probably use 2 six inchers instead, that way I could play with the way I want to set-up, and then both bulbs get the same incoming temperature air, removing a chance for canopy burning/ Hot spots.... plus 6" is somewhat "industry standard" most Carbon filters, cool tubes, and hoods are 6".... Also if you are living in that house, I'd look into some kind of noise suppression for an 8" fan.... Those suckers get LOUD on full blast!
