How important is PH of soil and water???

Hey! I’m going into week three of flower, Ive grown a bit and have had great results and less than great (airy bud)

My question is how important is the ph of soil and water?????

I’ve never kept track!

I’m feeding every 3rd or 4th watering with a bloom mixture and GH trio

Any info would be mucho appreciated

I am vegging inside and mostly have them outside for flower. When weather is rough I throw them under 400 watt hps

Temps are ranging from 50-80 in west florida
Humidity around 50%

Any tips for fat great buds is welcome!!!!

Lights, genetics and temps play a major role in how dense the buds are in flower. I can bet taking them in and out is messing with them badly though.

Ph is VERY VERY important in your watering and feed mixture

That said

Some soils are ph buffered to help eliminate the worries of the above statement

Proper ph levels ensures the plants ability to eat what you feed it. Try to grow one plant without ph’ing at all and see what you get.

I haven't PH tested since I gave up Hydro, about 16 years ago, and have had no problems because of it.

I used to use the peat based mix from Tomato grow bags, but more recently I have mixed my own. It is a mix of Peat, worm castings, dried seaweed, microrrhyzal fungi and vermiculite, it works very well. I know my local tap water is PH neutral and I normally only feed them anything other than plain water in the latter stages of flower and then only once a week. I was using a weak solution of generic tomato feed, but now I use Blattwerk Pure.

The pH of the soil itself doesn't really matter unless its completely out of sorts (9.5, 5.0 and such)

The pH of the water going in is what count.

soils have microbes in them. These deliver nutrients to your plant. Over time microbes die. You can re boost them however that takes a while.

Once they are dead they can't deliver nutes anymore.

Thats when pHing your water is a must.

Notice I said water. Not the soil. The water pH is what matter because it offers the range of pH to allow your plants to take in the nutes.

If you're going organic, pH isn't super crucial. For synthetic nutes though it's one of the most important things you need to stay on top of.

I grow in soil and use Jack's 321 exclusively; have never checked my pH and do not even own a meter or test strips. Unless you have very poor soil or bad water source this is advice best left to hydro growers.

You're taking shots in the dark by not testing. That's your prerogative but don't urge other people to be lazy with their plants dude. Why wouldn't you pH test? That's the opposite of scientific. If that works for you great. I am starting a new adventure in my next grow (finding the perfect buzz LOL as a departed friend liked to say) growing tropical landrace modified NLD types. Have read thousands of old posts from Ace Seed threads here and on icmag, not once have I see anyone speak about pH in their grow tips. Golden Tiger third version, Malawi, Panama and ThaixPanama are on the way.

I can agree with part of that. He is giving them GH Trio though, and the plant doesn't need microbes for those nutrients to be available to the plants.

Organic nutrients though need the microbes to convert the nutrients into a usable form for the plant.

As for pH mattering in soil. It does matter, but not like it does in Hydro.
