Uh yeah. For the cost of a new bulb, you might yield as much as 50% more if your lamp is really that old.

In the past I've spent 1000's on equipment, then either sold or gifted it all away, I have done that a few times.
But, right now this is what I'm working with:
6.5ft x 6.5ft grow tent, 48"x18" grow tent, 150watt cfl light fixture, and x5 AK-47 clones- cost me 3 big glass BHO blasting tubes and 5 myco-co2 bags I made myself.
150watt HPS-$90
Nutes- all kinds, all free samples from hydro shops-$0.00
Soil/coco coir/ composted cow manure/verm/perlite- about $60.
X2 8" 450cfm exhaust fans-$54
Ducting and clamps-$25
5 timers-$50
Now, before you guys shit on my set up, I know its pretty lame.... But I was just thrown a bunch of shit all at once and just did the best I could with what I have. I expect very fluffy airy buds this harvest, but that's ok, I'm just gonna blast everything into some nice shatter and use the $$ to get better lights.

I think I'd actually hate to know what I've spent.
Ballasts cost the most. Last year I bought 5 x Lumatek at €450 (bargain). Bulbs only cost me €22 on Sylvania and more for Phillips. My NFT tanks cost €150 each, got a few of those. Must be thousands that I've spent. Need carbon today actually..

That's pretty amazing for a 40x40 tent. So you've got a couple of tents going I take it. I have to get my timing down because my clones are ready to move way before plants in flower are ready and I only have two rooms, thinking I need three rooms which yup there's more money lol.

I've found a good soil mix is a lot easier to manage then dwc. Especially in my case where grows veg for a month at most, then switch to flower.
Oh wow... How much... that's a rough question. Started with bag seeds, dirt from garden and like 5 12$ walmart grow lights from there through 100$ of seeds and 40 3-7$ cfls at least before I pulled my head out of my ass and went to some hids. Dual arc for veg and a 600 hps another 100 in seeds and I was finally growing some real buds. Added a 400 and another 600 cause me and my wife smoke like Chong and snoop dog at an April 20th party every day and I couldn't keep up hehe. Add a few tents, 80 buckets/pots at least
Another 7 seed orders or so each bigger than the last for maybe 1500 total before I started pollen chucking.
Nutrients maybe 300 bucks before I went simple after a couple years and maybe 150 in the 5 since
So that's what about 4 grand maybe without dirt building materials, utilities or the like until this year when I blew the top off and started building me some beastly cxb3590 cob leds and a rdwc setup I've probly thrown 2500 at that whole room because this good damn site hooked me in 2009 and I cant stop.
I LOVE never having to ever buy weed for me and wifey and always knowing exactly what's in it where it came from and that all our friends love that we always have great shit when they've had a rough day and want to unwind
-Edit after new posts, I just switched from coco/soil/perlite mixture myself to rdwc, don't go backwards unless your really concerned about having no time to tend to em, rdwc is so much better growth

My first room built from scratch: 8x12x7 high, studded and plywood(8x8 veg/work area, 4x8 flower) wrapped and sealed in B&W poly, 240v circuit for lights, 2 110v circuits, 2 600s w/cooled hoods for flower, 300w t5 for veg, 256w overdriven t8 for mothers/clones, air pumps, fans, built in sink, rubber lined floors up to 6"(will contain 150+gallon spill, I could empty my res's and not leak outside the room), filtered intake/exhaust air, RO water supply, room plumbed with air lines/manifolds, diy aero rails, a few dwc setups, aero cloner, misc=$3500, appx., I kept all my receipts and added it up, so that's pretty accurate. That's just material costs, took me a couple weeks to build/wire/plumb it by myself.
Sounds like a bunch of money, but it's paid for itself, plus some, in under 12 months. I'm already planning the next expansion.
Probably a few grand spent on outside crops over the years, but they got run alongside my veggie garden, and don't get any real special treatment.

Started small with a used 400 hps. Most of everything else i acquired thru trades. Also got a bunch of stuff from a buddy who decided growing wasn't for him. Probably spent more on dirt over the years than on anything else.

I can agree about the rdwc...this go was my first foray into hydro from soil...after a few growing pains in the beginning... the growth rate simply BLOWS away all the same plants in soil. My rdwc plants are lush and green and healthy and im having non stop troubles with my girls in the Promix....im done with dirty dirt.
