How much power consumption before "the man" gets suspicious?

I used to work for British gas and they were constantly reporting people but only fair size operations.

We could see when there was a great voltage draw this is caused by the igniters that spark the discharge lamps, there is a great very unique draw to ignite the discharge lamp which we can see, when the bulb is first ignited, its only when they reach full brightness this then drops. Its a very, very unique power draw nothing else like it. LEDS are completely different but still unique, the transformers instead step down the voltage which we can also tell, but a great deal of people use LED for down lighting in their ceilings but these only draw 100 / 300w in houses. We can even tell when people open their fridge due to the power it takes to re-refrigerate, invasion of privacy I know!

The best way to hide it is use Tesla modules to charge and discharge the electricity, you can even charge Tesla modules at charging stations if you want to be super under the radar but a advanced charging system would need to be setup to charge at the 50kw charging speeds, no electrical company will report high usage its only if they see a correlation at certain times of the day lights on / off as people could have 1 electrical heater per room! Thats 3kw, if you have 10 rooms thats 30kw per hour 720kw per day! Some people just dont realise how much a electrical heater costs in power.

Ps What ever you do DO NOT Steal the power!!!! :wall:

Thats the biggest reason people got caught, its easy to pin point the house that is stealing power even if you are temporally connecting and disconnecting the meter.

Ps dont tell them I told you guys. ;)

Hey, does this only apply if you have a smart meter, or can you see that regardless?

I know there's no exact answer to this question, but what is a ball park figure of how many watts i can use before the power company raises suspicion? I heard or read that a 500 watt increase would cause the power company to get curious. This seems like a small amount considering i've got 300w in one ceiling fan right now for kitchen lighting.
My power bill is $500+ on the reg w no problems. (Also, think about it.) Pg&e has a customer with high bills, so they bust him. Now they are in jail and no longer paying them large amounts of money. Doesnt make sense as a business model does it? Hell, they probably want more folks to be growing.

Who is this dude talking about 500w is suspicious come dude, if u cant figure that out this aint for you. Stay under the radar by never doing light cycles during non normal days. Always call your electric company and ask what is the highest consumption hours in your neighborhood. Example: if they say 7am to 8pm then flower 8am to 8pm not 8pm to 8am. Never steal electricity and stay under 10kwatts a month. Rule of thumb is no more than 4 1000 watt hps lights and 3 600 watts lights. Use LED for vege and HPS for flower. Pick your 4 highest running system in your house and don't use during flowering cycle, turn off or use minimum l

This is silly advice from start to finish. First, for every 1000W HPS you could be running just 600W of LED and you'll need less AC to cool it, saving even more power.

Definitely find out about peak rates in your area and time everything to be off during those times, it's a huge money saver.

Now, WHERE you grow means everything in terms of whether your energy usage is suspicious. PG&E in California won't give a shit because weed is legal and they don't have to care. Someplace where it's still illegal? That's a different story.

If your house runs on electric heat then you've pretty much got it made because Watts is Watts and it all makes heat.

I do agree with one thing, at least; whatever you do, DON'T steal power. They follow it to the Watt because for them it's a safety issue, so they WILL find you and the penalty for stealing power is often worse than for growing in the first place.

Until the meters melt
What a bunch of idiots.

"Police said Mai gave the lineman an envelope with $100 bills inside. When the lineman tried to give it back, Mai pushed his hand away, police said. The Eversource crew eventually left the residence with the power still on and called police."

Wt? So Why tf would anybody ask about staying low if they were somewhere it was legal? People say dumb things
