How to know when to start flushing?

Wow this site is ruthless! It’s kinda funny I’ll give y’all that but tbh I was hoping to gain some knowledge and pick the brains of other like minded dudes. I’ve been growing indoors since 2001 but this is my first outdoor grow ever. Yes there are similarities but there are also nuances to the outdoor specimen. Especially the time in preflowering and early flowering. Not having that 12/12 switch day to kinda use to count plus the differences in regional and longetudal growth. I’m in central Ohio where timing is many days apart between north Cleveland grows and southern Dayton/Cincinnati grows. So it’s hard to find local specific nugz of info. Hope to learn here without getting bashed too bad but if it’s in fun I can bash with the best. Happy growing y’all
What exactly are you looking to learn? Perhaps make your own thread with your questions?
Flushing should happen when the bud is almost ready to harvest about when the pistils are 50% brown
So 50% brown pistils means the bud is almost ready to harvest?

Flushing talk seems to stir a shitstorm around here, but here's what i find funny: some people, in the same breath, will laugh at the notion of flush but will make a remark to the effect "taper off feed, and give plain water for the last days before chop. .. ummm excuuuse me but isn't that " flushing"?

I believe the flushing that gets referred to, means running enough pain water through, to deplete the medium of nutrients, so the plant starts to use up all available nutrient in the leaves.

Which is the point of flush, is it not?

Tomato tomahto, bud.
It's exactly the point of a flush, but you mentioned tapering off, which imo, means giving low dose nutrient, which I believe is more for clearing up a lockout. Most of these guys don't want any nutrient. They're afraid of residual salts in their buds. That's just my opinion. Not wanting a cock fight.

no, using plain water the last week(even the last 2 weeks) isn't "flushing", that is just called watering.

tapering off feed certainly isn't the same as flushing because you are still feeding your plant......

Until the last few years flushing always referred to "running large amounts (3x the container volume was often recommended) through your medium to remove nutrients, some people even suggested doing it multiple times. That is still the definition when talking about fixing a nutrient issue or salt buildup. However in the last 5ish, maybe 7 years some people have tried to change the definition to avoid flushing debates, or because as they learned the science and realized that pouring massive amounts of water through your medium wasn't helpful but they still had to justify their cognitive dissonance. Flushing is not the same as watering with plain water or watering with lighter nutrients.

Since I typed this all out already I might as well make my stance clear on the subject. I've done multiple side-by-sides with clones in the same environment where flushing was the only difference. I've mostly grown in hydro, but have done some soil runs as well, and I have grown well over a thousand plants at this point of many different genetics. I understand the process of how plants uptake and USE nutrients to grow. I don't flush plants at harvest, it's pointless.

Flushing is only used for correcting a severe nutrient issue in the medium. Flushing a plant can absolutely damage the root system and stress the plant delaying growth so it should only be done if really necessary.

Tapering feed and watering according to the plants needs won't hurt anything at all, and promotes a healthy plant all the way to harvest.

Grow your garden however you want to, its your garden :). But the best buds come from healthy plants that are grown until they are fully ripe and then dried properly to ensure a quality smoke.

So are you saying that final flush means stopping feed immediately and then just plain watering? I didn't know that tapering off to a plain water for days isn't the same thing as it pertains to a "final flush".

LMAO you guys are sooooo fucking wishywashy on this topic, it's kinda hilarious. I got sock laundry to do, peace out
