how to tell female seeds from male seeds

hello everyone, i found this video on youtube and would like to get opinions on how true or not true this is.


seems to simple to be true.
 
I doubt it. I have always found that female seeds will always point to the true north when you drop them on the ground.

Interesting. I think it is a bit of both but I'm not one to necessarily hold an opinion without actual information. Nonetheless I respect your position.

I don't believe one can tell if a bean will be male, female or intersexed. I'd place money on someone claiming otherwise to be incorrect and less than 50% accurate. it would be a fun experiment.
 
I have heard that marijuana develops sex and does not have it inherently as well.

These things are said to increase female ratios.

High Nitrogen ratio, large amounts of bioavailable nitrogen
Higher humidity
Lower temperatures
Blue light spectrum

For males it is increased potassium, lower humidity, higher temperatures and a red light spectrum.
 
I've only been on here a few weeks but have seen someone post this exact video on here and other forums every other day hah.

There are studies out there that attribute sex to both DNA and environment, so its imppossible to tell from looking at a seed.

qwizoking claims to have something like a high 90% rate of females to males with the beans he pops.
 
Sex is predetermined and environment has no effect on sex in my opinion. Sometimes with feminized seeds you get a male, hermi genetics make hermi prone seeds, and some males are recessive or dominant when it comes to sex of offspring in crosses creating more male or female seeds sometimes. Ive grown out crosses that ended up all males and some that were all female that werent feminized, all in same environment. Its all in the genetic makeup in my opinion and experience.

There may be methods to increase the odds since cannabis can swap sex for survival. Only way if belive such method is if by doing genetic testing on a bean

I'm not sure if cannabis sex is only two alleles or could possibly be more like in people with XXY. Environmental could potentially influence certain traits to show, but I do think sex is genetically programmed into the bean and unless it's altered by aspects of the environment (thinking of things like colloidal silver, dutch reverse).

I'm not so sure about environment playing a role. My veg room stays at a very constant temp/RH. Same lights for years, same fans etc.

Sometimes I get 80% females, sometimes 80% males and other times shit is pretty 50/50. If environment is constant how could this be explained?

Wonder how long before this turns into the "defoliation during flowering" thread? LOL.
 
I'm surprised people are still commenting.. If you go to the wikipedia entry for cannabis, there are numerous scientific and peer reviewed studies referenced that are pretty conclusive.
 
I'd hardly say it's conclusive. Even Wikipedia mentions that there are male identifying DNA aspects to cannabis yet a complete karyotype hasn't been conducted since 1996.

On the other hand, it mentions what we know about chemicals playing a role in shaping the sex of cannabis plants one wah or another.
