hps in a closet, first grow

My preliminary plan is to put a big cardboard sheet covering the door, make a hole in the middle of it and place 4 computer fans and a homemade carbon filter, do you think that would work? :P

The first set of leaves are starting to not look as healthy as before on two of them, what could this indicate?

sounds pretty ghetto but if its sealed i dont see why it wouldnt work. and could be heat damage or overwatering, try poking holes to help her dry up faster, stay 2" away from the stem.

Cardboard is a no, do not use cardboard go pick up some plywood and some paint, do it right

Hm I will see, I have some cardboard so it's convenient, and I don't have access to a saw...

The problem with the plants seems to be heat stress from what I can gather, raised the lamps a bit more

is cardboard that bad? I have two panels on my little setup made outta cardboard, but I also painted all surfaces white( including the cardboard)

I mean a lot of people use it I just wouldn't and don't trust it, I dont want anything that can hold mil or is flammable, accidents happen

So last day of this setup! The HPS arrives tomorrow

Day 14 from seed

This is what it looks like right now

I'm gonna transplant #2 into this one, I can't have 3 big round pots, takes too much space, I will need more space when the mangos get bigger, thought I would just place a plastic bag inside of this one and make 4 more later on for the mangos and it will fit. But I think I made it a bit too big maybe lol

But I need to use it to make all the pots fit in there, I don't see why cardboard pots or putting the cfls in cardboard like that would be a problem? Though I listened to you and got the aluminium foil out of there and I have abandoned the idea about having a cardboard sheet with a fan in it covering the door. But I kind of need to use cardboard for the pots to have space for all of them...

I was talkin about over the bulbs ( the 4 CFLs) especially now that you have an hps like right above/next to it

Yeah ok, true, it's a bit of a concern yeah... maybe I should cut off the part of the cardboard that is above the lights and just leave the part that keeps them in place?

I suggest you should water around the whole pot rather than just around the plant... That way the roots can fetch further and get better root coverage. :) Also i just bought a HPS. And honestly, i'm telling you it'd probably get way too hot for that space. Unless you have really sufficient and efficient cooling system. I still haven't managed to use my HPS since it gets WAAYY to hot, I mean I fear my house will be on fire when I wake up.. Fortunately I only paid 5 Pounds (5 euro's ish) for my ballast. It is a 150W. And gets very hot. So just take some time to consider it :)

Aha okay, thanks for the suggestion about the watering!

The heat is actually manageable with about the height I have in the pictures there, I've had it on for 18 hours and it topped 29C but I had to have the door to the closet fully opened with my big kitchen fan blowing on the plants on 2/3 strength. I can't lower it more though since I think it's more important to keep the temperature within the optimal range than to get the lighting superclose.

My suggestion to you is to get a big fan like the one I have (in the picture at the bottom of the first post) and have it blow into your growing space if you can't pull off a better solution with some more advanced ventilation

Thanks! It's working pretty nicely! Two of them have gotten a lot bigger, but yesterday I overwatered the one I transplanted and it is slow recovering :(
