ok i only have eneogh money to buy one light right now. Will i be okay if i buy a high pressure sodium light to use during vegetative growth? I have heard that hps lights are better for flowering and metal halide are better for vegetative growth. which would you buy if you had one choice?

HPS for sure. They work pretty well for veg(especially with color-corrected bulbs), and will definitely make up for any disadvantages once they go into the bloom room.

if you don't have a choice. get the HPS. there are conversion bulbs out there now, some can be expensive..... if you don't have the money for a conversion bulb just supplement the HPS with 100 watts of Daylight CFLs to get the blue spectrum in there.... you'll just need 2 clamp lights, two y splitters, and a 4 pack of 26 watt bulbs..... about 20 bux....

It depends. You lookin for quality or quantity? This is a really bland kinda bad way of putting it I know but consider, a mh will generally give u tighter nodespacing and more bigorous growth through veg, as well in flower the uv quality of a mh plays a factor in potency by slightly stimulating trich production (I personally use 75%mh25%hps in flower) though at the cost of yield to a degree where as the hps will typically give looser lankier nodespacing in veg (imo decreasing bud size not so much weight but they won't be as nice looking and ur "cola" will look more like five buds trying to connect.) But the spectrum of an hps is more ideal for the flowering cycle of cannabis and typicallý results in more bud swell. A problem I had was the stertchy veg would mix with the fat nugs in late flower causing plants to topple making more work for me.where as the mh gives me a more desirable bud structure in my eyes plus the slight enhancement of trich production. A few things to bear in mind is dan. Ur plants will only be as good as their genetics allow. Invest in some solid genes (tga rocks). Another is increased trich production DOES NOT mean increased potency trichs contain much much more than thc this could mean increased aroma, taste, and again maybe potency but, if you have solid genetics and dontand uv quality increses your potency ur likely missing a link somewhere to begin.if your condittions are optimal the plant should be stimulated enough to perform as well as its dna will allow. Wow I'm off topic long story longer I would (as I did when I started) go with mh and a sunmaster warm deluxe bulb. The p.a.r has a very good all around range and should give you the best of both worlds until u can change some stuff up. I hope that helped lol.

You want the best result?....i see people saying oh MH is better...or HPS is better...well your all wrong.

The best choice to use is BOTH MH and HPS at the same time...it's already been proven that using both lights gets you bigger yields, and up to 30% more trich production...it's actually proven that MH lights will get you more trich production compared to using a HPS, but smaller buds...HPS give bigger buds but less trich production...so using the 2 in conjunction with each other will yield you the best...besides...wouldn't we all rather have better weed then bigger budz anyways?

HPS doesn't have much usable blue light for veg...and even if you do get a horitlux or agro...that 17% or 20% blue light that they add to the bulb means that your plant will only be using 17% or 20% of the bulbs energy during Veg....I say go with a Halide ... the buds will be a bit smaller if you flower with it but their potencty will be the same...maybe better because Halides have some UV light also which cause plants to produce more trichomes...to protect themselves....

this is your best option, those conversion bulbs are crap
