Don't go overboard here. I'll hold on to my aquariums thanks! For being such an animal lover it seems odd you don't have any pets? Captivity is fine if you are responsible about it.Yep, perty f'd up!
Oh well, I'm one of those guys that claps when the Orca kills its "trainer" because I don't believe in captivity... you want to see a whale, go to where the whales naturally live and frolic. Want to see a Rhino, go to Africa, a great white shark, go to South Africa, Kangaroo, go to Australia... you get the point, I'm a nature lover to the extreme, tree hugger and proud, I love my mother earth and she loves me...

I have 2 cats... and in such a case of an aquarium or domesticated (dogs, cats) pets... it's fine as those animals are domesticated. But bringing a wild animal such as a lion or tiger into captivity is just wrong.

Man I think its alright because they only give out lie 3-10 tags a year on very endangered species like polar bears. You dont need to be rich either. One of my old high school teachers is obsessed with exotic hunts and safari's and he bought a polar bear tag for $10,000. The people that hunt or buy tags more often ge first dibs on the tags, its based on a list of names.

Yes because it was the trainer that put the whale in captivity.
The trainer is the one that prods the whale into performing it's stunts, if anything, the trainer is worse than the company he/she represents because they actually perform the physical violence against the animal in order to "teach" it.

I was under the impression they use positive reinforcement in order for the animals to do tricks. Willie does a jump he gets a fish type deal. Kind of like Skinner's experiments
When did Elephants become collectively "endangered"? They are not and the controlled hunting benefits far outweigh the negative aspects. The meat belongs to the area villages, the Professional hunter employs many villagers whom would not otherwise have a job - -AND revenue brought in is pumped directly into programs to protect both the herds and the habitat.

I am a crazy animal rights activist... what gives humans the right to take a wild animal such as an orca, put it in something that for the whales size equates to a hot tub for us, and ask it to do silly stupid tricks.
How about I go pluck up your mom or dad, maybe even yourself, drop ya in a tank and ask you to swim around for the rest of your life and jump over pool volleyball nets, for some crackers and water and bread?
I bet you would be so thrilled, any objections to that and you would sound like an idiot, wouldn't want to sound like one of an idiot would ya?
Positive reinforcement... you REALLY think the Orca knows what positive reinforcement is? It knows how to survive... and how to survive in captivity is to show off and get food as the reward...
What would SeaWorld do with an animal that didn't do any tricks and thus proved no purpose for their financial gain? You already know what SeaWorld would do... make up some BS about a "Strange condition" making the whale unmotivated to performs tricks or eat, and then they would "euthanize" or as I say... murder, the whale.
Most captive animals, if given a choice... would no doubt rather be freed and have all the food in the world, than some crap from a humans hand.

you didnt respond to my other post-whats so bad about captivity if they live a comfortable life in a natural like setting in a zoo or something? the point of life seems to be to survive with as little effort as possible while passing on your genetics and spreading the species to as many places as it can survive.........if they were kept in horrible conditions its one thing but.......???

and please, if your idea of the "point of life" is to survive with as little effort then by all means, go to your nearest zoo, tell them you will live in an exhibit for the rest of your natural life and that all they have to do is feed you scrumptious, delicious zoo food and some water.
Money money money, the whale makes money, it's allowed to live... and besides, if they killed the whale you know the reaction that would get from the huge and steadily growing folks who are smart about their world and know that if that whale had not been in captivity, that young girl would be alive today.
It is NO fault of the whale that the girl was killed, it's a WILD animal, and nicknamed a KILLER whale for a reason...
See why captivity is wrong yet, or are you still blind?

what would any of us will do if marijuana plants are endangered species? same rules apply to endangered animals...its ok to captivate as long as your letting it grow like in the wild...as to like planting indoors vs outdoors, same concept different method of growing your weed.
