Hydroponic baby plant doing even worse :(

Here is the latest picture. As soon as the weekend hits I am going to try and get a 5 gallon (or bigger if I can find one) bucket from Home Depot to change this into. But since I asked about this little gal last time, I emptied all the water (which had been 100% old aquarium water, high in nitrates), added mew about 30% old aquarium water, the rest distilled water (to try and fix the issue if it was nutrient lock-out caused by the high nitrates), then added just a bit of some fresh trace solution that is supposed to add needed elements to water for planted aquariums (and I saw it had potassium and phosphates, among other things, including some trace minerals).

But, while it is still growing bigger, and the roots longer, you can see from the picture the leave are getting very bad, even some of the new ones. The older leaves are turning yellow and rotting away.

Thoughts on what the issue might be? I though maybe it was getting "burned" by too much light, and below is a picture of the three lights on it, but I did a test with my phone and like the MOST lumens I could get it to read out under those lights right next to the top of the plant was like 40,000 something, and outside on a cloudy day my phone typically shows 50,000 plus, so I doubt that is the issue.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!! I've got some General Hydroponics solutions coming, so hopefully that will help, but I need a stop-gap measure if possible! Thanks!

Dude aquarium water is full of organic shit. You will have nothing but lroblems in a single site DWC with that Shit. You almost have to run sterile. Using 0ppm Reverse Osmosis water, GH FloraTrio and CaliMagic will get you results.

Thanks Airwalker! Just did a TDS test on my water in that res, came out to 109. Is that not about right for the water as far as dissolved compounds and what not? Got GH on the way, think I need to get some CaliMagic do not think it comes with it. Thanks!

Ppms of the aquarium water? You need RO water. Get a system. $100 or so on Amazon or if you need to get by, grocery store machines that you can get water from usually 25-45¢/gal.

PPM of my tap water - 350ish. Tried it out of two sinks and the toilet, but all came back almost identical. Seems way high, no?

PPM of aquarium water? Just tried it, came back 384.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

No worries icetech! I have ready access to both distilled and RO water, the majority of which is what I used in that res, with a little aquarium to try and get some nitrates in there, and I added a very small chunk of a potassium pill. I'm just wondering what people's best guess as to what the problem with the plant is. Thanks!

P.S. what is a good PPM level for the plants?

Thanks!

RO is 0ppms. That's where you need to start. With simply GH floratrio and their CaliMagic, you'll be in business

Its because you are trying to grow with all these weird fringe solutions aka aquarium water and potassium tablets. Dump the aquarium water immediately and never again water any plant with it. Hide the potassium tablets.
R.O/Distilled. GH Three Part. Calmag.
Calmag your RO to 100ppm@/.5 scale then add in equal parts of your GH until you get to around 300ppm. Start with that.
GH Three part/calmag has done me so right.

Yeah, i'm not sure what's up with aquarium water, i have never heard of it or anyone growing with it.. what's wrong with... Water... add jacks 3-2-1 at like 200ppm for that size and be happy...

Got it 5by5lec and icetech thanks! Dumping what I got, adding distilled water, and just waiting until my GH three part and Calimagic arrives. Will do your formula 5by, I think I follow. THanks!!!

I really can't recommend this enough.
Despite what the chart says, always add CaliMagic FIRST. STIR OR SHAKE(if making a larger batch for dozens of gallons in a smaller container) THOROUGHLY. Then Flora micro, STIR OR SHAKE. FloraGro, STIR OR SHAKE. And lastly FloraBloom, STIR OR SHAKE.

I think they call it aquaponics. There was a grow store up in denver that had a bunch of plants growing off the fish tank water. Problem is it's just good at vegging, not flowering as the required P&K kill the fish.

Awesome. Keep it simple. Post some pics of the roots and stuff if you have some time.
