Positive reviews can be found for any light. For overpriced lights (like Hydro Hut, Cali Lightworks, et. al.) we can't know causation unless there is a side-by-side grow. What I mean is, someone who would spend $900 on a light will probably apply a similar dedication to their grow environment, pest control, ph, etc.
To me, I believe overpriced hyped lights can produce good results. But, are the results worth the extra cost? For example, a previous poster said they pulled 200g off two plants. I got 180g off a single autoflower using two Blackstar 130w (85w actual) UFOs in a 2x4 tent (for two plants, perpetual grow).
There's so many variables. I don't think yield is definitive proof. Not from one grow anyway.
You can test your theory by calling Hydro Hut and asking for the spectrum and ratio. When I've called similar high-priced brands asking for that information, I got the run-around about how it's proprietary information, competitors would kill for it, etc. That's when I knew it's "secret sauce" hyperbole. Any competitor who would kill for Hydro Hut's spectrum/ratio would simply buy a light and interrogate it with a $3k spectrometer. Once a light leaves Hydro Hut's possession, it's hardly a "secret" any more. Therefore, all they're doing is making it harder for the average consumer to assess what they are being asked to spend $900 for.
High price and secrecy, to me, equates to buying speculation.
But, call and ask for yourself. Maybe they'll give you the details. Let us know.
