Hygrometer's recommendation ? ?

Whats a good analog hygrometer for mason jars ? ?

I see alot of ones designed for ciguar hummidors , but im not so sure how to adapt to a mason lid , the advertisments dont give any info on the 'probe' which im quessing is just a flat surface meant to adhear somehow to the humidior ? ? ?

The bovida packs wont do much for me , Im trying to learn how to dry without over drying . This year my humidty levels are all over the place one day they will be around 30 the next in the 80's

Im almost sure that I over dryed a small piece in 4 days , my area is usually hot and very humid this time of year, so I was not paying much attention to the RH levels daily

Anything electronic is not for me , but I do appreciate the info.


Any one know of a formula/chart , about temp. drop and condensation points to give me a estimate of where im at humidity wise ? ? , Or another way to estimate the RH ? ?

There are lots of analog hygrometers for sale, even cheap. Few use them, tho. Because they are mostly crap. I bought several before I got my Calibers. 4 different hygrometers, every one with a different reading. Wildly different. 3 Calibers, all within 2 points of each other. If you refuse to use good tools, then don't be surprised when you get bad results.

The surface has to be exposed to the atmosphere you're trying to measure. You have to put it inside the jar or mount it in a hole that goes thru the lid.

Funny intill I came hear I always read/heard the digital ones were the inaccurate ones (mostly on shroom forms) ? ? ?, My understanding is with the analog as long as their calibrated often their accurate to +/- 2% mayabe

I can't speak for all brands, just the Calibers. The ones I bought at Home Depot and Lowes were no good. Threw them away and don't remember the names. You can get Calibers for less than $20 on Ebay.. They come with a magnet so you can just stick them on a pole. They are small and will fit in a Mason jar(1" x 2" x 3/8")

any one know how to tell the difference, I see 2 different models of the IV version

The III would have older batteries. I doubt there's any other difference, but I may be wrong. I have III's

Caliber IV..its awesome accurate to +/-1..also..those boveda packs are more for storage, like after curing.

Edit. But its digital.

I dont like them at all ..........

They lose calibration way to fast , and I worry about dust in the sensor vents, also button cell batterys are anything but common

I just bought a sling psychrometer, as well as a older one that works on a hair , They will never fit in a typical jar but thats good with me
