5 aircooled DE lights in a 14x15 rooom: would an 18,000 BTU mini-split cover it? I see Toshiba and others in the $800-$1000 range. And a mitsubishi 24000 BTU around $1050

local HVAC companies are talking 3 tons or more at 36000 BTU which seems excessive to me.

I'm running my DE's at 1150 watts, no air-cool at all, and i'm using 6000btu of AC per fixture in my sealed rooms. It's working excellent. And i'm sure I'll be alright running them during the hottest of Northern California nights this summer;-)

I have zero experience with those air-cooled DE hoods, but I do know that you can't air cool the DE's as much as you can a traditional hps.
So, how much air-cooling are you really achieving? Sort of need to know that before figuring out how many btu's of AC will be needed to combat the btu's of heat put off by the lights.
With traditional air-cooled hoods, everyone I know figures 4k btu of AC per 1000w of light. But again, that is a tradional air-cooled hood.

Ive seen that!!! My only beef is the water waste, i think it mentioned hot water. Where i live in california water waste is frowned upon big time right now. That unit is super dope though!!!
Way i thought of it as using 2000 or more liter res 500 gallons???/ or pending on trial n error so cold water is always coming in hoter being dumped into a res and cooled for re use or even glycol or cooled by rads
have it closed looped with chilllers possibly valve control ??? many options

Haven't purchased the lights yet. So I could only do 4 - air-cooled 1000W DEs with an 18,000 BTU mini-split?

I have a neighbor doing 2 of those lights with a portable 2 duct, 6000 BTU unit and I thought the mini-splits were more efficient. Gotta do something quick as my veg stuff could be flipped within a week.

Cowboy i have seen other's use them in USA one has to choose Hyundai or a Porsche.. your best bet is to search possibly call them, who knows might be a supplier next door to you lol just saying..
your talking 6 k here so whats a couple pounds from a 13 - 15 pound harvests to get one of these units .
and now your talking your like a week away from flowering so you need to do something fast ????
Seriously dude ,, you should of thought this out long before and had things in place already cause if you think about it your not only looking for mini split ac unit you should also be looking for a brain / sensors that will dial in the room after so again thats 1100 bucks more for a good 1 brain system are you could spend couple hundred bucks here n there purchasing other ones but then again a cluster fuck of more wiring
Anyways sounds to me your better off purchasing a portable AC unit might as well hit Rono / or home depot and use it in the mean time until you figure out exactly WTF you want
I am not trying to come across as a prick just trying to save you money in the end right ???
if some growers were to count the wasted money spent from the start of there growing carrier to now people would be shocked plan plan re think make sure your investment is part of the big picture
this hobbie will nickel n dime you to death and big investments need to be thought out not spur at the moment or my plants are going into flower next week i need to do something fast ????

Nope. You need to downsize the grow or buy a real AC. 6 dual ended needs 3 ton for sure. 2 ton for 4 lights. 24k btu.
You need your AC to be overboard.. As soon as a mini split starts spinning its wheels and can't keep up.. It gets left behind quit and your room will get hotter than shit. For the difference of a few hundred dollars... I would definitely just buy the 3 ton now so you have the option of upgrading to 6 lights later. It would be a huge bitch to have to buy another one. If you buy that 18k btu your going to be surprisingly let down .

I have been reading reviews over the last week. I found a cheaper company that might be worth looking into, Pioneer... I would be able to buy a multi-zone for the same price as a single zone mitsubishi! From what I could tell, Pioneer is a Florida company??? HighSeer is their online storefront.

I am looking at a dual zone 30,000btu. I might split them 18+12. The unit is $1,900.
I dont think that I will really go as big as I first let on, but I do like to have the option to expand!
I have seen good reviews about this company! Does anyone else have experience with this company? I was just having trouble finding a lower cost company than mitsu.

Well, sure. I thought I'd done my homework. I'd planned to go with two portables. But I'd read on a thread, I think at 420.com, that I needed 2200 BTU per 1000W, so I was dialed in to half of what I actually needed.

The other, more pertinent thing, was I planned to make the first grow in two tents, then 3 weeks ago found some cheap warehouse space, which completely changed all my plans at a late hour. I've had to build a wall, add a steel door, run extra electric lines, hung orca film and I'm pretty convinced I can install a mini-split.

Between the late change in the game plan and the bad info, I got stuck. I'm sure my plants can stay in veg for 2 weeks more, so I'm hardly in panic mode, just in need of good info now on a dependable product.

(Btw, I also was wrong about finding a cheap Mitsubishi. It was an Air-Con that was advertising they use a Mitsubishi compressor.) So from what I've read, Mitsubishi is the Porsche..... how do Daikin, Air-Con, LG and others rate?

I have seen others talk about Daikin and Fujistu, but they are almost the same price as Mitsubishi. So, for me that would not be a hard choice for $200 difference on a 24000btu. I am having trouble finding one of those units that people say cost half as much, but it is a difficult road! I have the money in my pocket and I cannot decide. Someone could be making commission off of me right now!

Did you tell me to get the Aura system??? It was not helpful in my situation because it cost as much as a Mitsubishi. I am trying to make a good purchase that I feel good about.
