I'm in perpetual fungus gnat hell...nothing is working.

not sure if this has been mentioned since i only read the first page but put a layer of sand on your dirt...

"Bang" is all natural, not a chemical...I grow organic, no chemicals.

I looked at predator insects but the question is, what happens when the bugs I've introduced into an indoor grow tent run out of food? They'll be all over my house...screw that.

thats why you take them from your house and remove them when the job is done. The spiders wont eat all of the gnats but do a great job of catching them in their webs, so once your problem is gone get as many out as you can find and sweep off the cobwebs then release them outside. Granted im thinking from my perspective of a small tent whereas you may have something much larger where this solution would be pointless you just couldnt find enough to even make a dent much less the mess that would be made. In your case some a natural pesticide may be more applicable. i liked the foam idea although im interested in how you water if you never take it off i dont really want to water through foam. Sand works great and IME perilite is just a bit to big and still allows them to crawl through to the dirt and reproduce.

this.... also i used Safer caterpillar killer for shrubs and bushes when I had them a few years ago, it's food safe and about 12 dollars for a bottle. Seriously though just let the soil dry out.

I almost always use Azamax as my "go to" pesticide, but the Safer line is made for soil applications, and is much more cost effective. In addition I made plastic skirts for the tops of them. I'd use the yellow traps with the grids on them, not really to kill te gnats, cuz thats just not very effective, but i use them to get an idea of what the adult gnat POPULATION is.

Hope you get rid of it, I've bever heard of anyone having too big of problems with gnats, maybe you are having other problems that are contributing to the pests? Temps too high? Humidity? No beneficial biology going on at the root level?

Not sure, I've never had a mite problem before...I know what the little shits came in on though, a strawberry plant I bought and had in my house for a week before noticing an issue and moving it outside.

The Bang stuff should be arriving today, I'll be spraying ASAP, will let you know the results.

Just soaked the shit out of everything with Bang...it smells like vinegar...wish me luck.

Yeah I know the sand trick works real well, and I never have house plant in my operation house, it's a stepping stone to your grow for bugs, it sucks but it's best to only have your meds growing only, put everything else outside. There are also plants that are like Venus fly traps that will eat the shit out of gnats, just grow them in your garden....Good luck JR

Ive never seen the bang...good luck with it. I have the little bastards at the moment, im in a hydro setup so if any of you have any good links that i can use, I went with azamax wich is an antifedant, good stuff, it wiped some stubborn spider mites out that no pest strip, and neem wouldn't do. The little bastard fungas gnats are just hanging onto the roots, I put 1/2 bottle of azamax in the res, did a flush and put the other half in 7 days later and I didn't seam to do the trick. Theres a product called azatrol....it sounds like the shit but its kind of expensive? +rep for any good leads

Hey whats up buddy I just wanted to give some advice and say do NOT SWEAT it...this is just my opinion though. When I first start growing I noticed I had these things and freaked the hell out but I found that if your plants are growing vigourously it doesnt really harm them at all, thats just in my experinece and ive been doin it for 3 yrs, not veteran time but long enough to know that they are common and harm nothing at all. If you want to do it the organic way you can get beneficial nematodes, their like micro bugs and shit you can order or go to a nursery and get...they usually come in a wet sponge and you shake them up in water. I did it once and didnt even do it anymore because my plants just grew past the fuckers they are weeds ya know lol. good luck

It's something to sweat when they start making your plants turn yellow and die...but that's the spider mites.

use gnatrol. it is a brown granular gnat killer that kills the larve which eats your root hairs. at same time use sticky traps for the adults. this is all you need and it works. I think gnatrol is omri listed too so it is very safe.

hehe, fungus gants are easy. I was in hell for a few months.

Here is what I found. Mosiquito dunks plus pyrethrin.

Mosquito dunks are 9 dollars at lowes. Make a topdress and let some disolve into some water and drench the soil. It is a harmless to human aerobic bacteria that is man made to eat all insect larvae. Not just fungus gnats. It will kill them all in a few days at most. Hrmless enough to be drunk by people and animals. It is the shit!

That will only kill the larvae. The topside needs to be dealt with by using pyrethrin or some other spray. Then presto. If short on cash and long on time using only mosiquito dunks would work, just take longer,

everything else is snakewater. calling say sand oil would be a step up. Same with just spraying the topside.

I got my gnats from a rotting bannana peel I left outside in a homemade composter I screwed up on the first run.

If someone already mentiined them, mosquito dunks them I am sorry, I could not stomach 51 posts. Good luck.
