I'm suprised at how weed has progressed

Lol listen to you, impatient youngster! Here I was about to agree that weed- the plant, the industry and the culture- is progressing very rapidly indeed. It's at once both exhilarating and a bit disconcerting!

Say you young ass kid maybe you could hook up one of your ipads to a flowering plant and make a strain 60% or higher! Lol!! No but seriously us grown folks have been smoking weed since the 80s so yes for us it has come along way, but for you snotty youngsters its just begging..
But i understand ur still wet behind the ears..bongsmilie
Shame you cant show this maturity in an informal, informative and concise answer like those who posted stuff actually worth reading!

As Marijuana as a whole has improved tremendously...yes I'm sure there was some dank....but ten years ago we weren't talking terpines , or even the extraction of it...I love some sour D terps on top of everything if it wasn't for smart minded people and WEED improving over the years breeders are breeding...how many quality breeders are improving on a daily basis? And yes there are many more variables that make you medicated but we didn't know about them....and money for those Oz has changed as well, I get what your saying just about the thccontent, but what I was meaning as a whole mj has improved

What do people base % thc on, the whole plant or just the bud?

If it was the whole plant id say it produces a lot less than 20% and so were not talking like its churning the stuff out....

idk sour d terps come from the central american landrace i know as simply sour. goes garlicky chemy and sometimes light berry notes. chunky buds with little leaf. flowers 14 weeks on avg.

if weed was improving i wouldnt still prefer the original from 20-30yr old stock.. like i said all we can do is alter flavor. but sometimes the originals are best. a good roadkill skunk is more appealing to me than whatever fad strain is out.
all the best bud ive had is old. classic coffee master kush etc.
and people have been hashing it for a veeeeery long time. probably among when psychoactive properties were discovered

20-30% total resin content from flower is normal. not talking thc amounts

But even back when, no one was talking total resin content, that stuff didn't matter, in the 70s no one was taking cbn, cbd, cbg, thc a etc...mj has improved. ...yes I get there was some absolute fire bud, but a lot more shitty, seedy bud was there too....even what we know on growing the plant has improved, yes the plant has stayed the same in a sense but what we know about it and how to go about it has improved

What do you mean?
- improving on marketing skilks?
- imoroving on being hype artists?
- improving on genetics?

If you mean improving on genetics I would say none do improve on a daily basis. Improving a strain is a process over generations.
And I dont speak crossing crosses with crosses to get more multi crosses thats not what I call breeding.
I also dont speak selfing elite clones either.
I have still to see one new ibl out there in years that is not a pure landrace but linebred and truebreeding like old shool skunk for example.
dunno seems to me as it is just going the easy way doin multihybrids for breeders. You dont have to invest lots of time work and research crossing crosses. and when your marketing sells 100 packs a day you have even with those multihybrids some fire reports at the end of the day. and that few elite plants in a few thousand seeds make up for a hype then.
In my opinion multihybrids are no art and should cost a fraction of what a truebreeding ibl should cost.
I just dont get it why people pay assloads of money for a guy simply doing nothing than pollinating hybrid a with hybrid b

Nobody has to use mercury vapor lights and tinfoil anymore. That's cool.

Skilled growers can spread their awesome information to any joker, anywhere. That's cool.

People are into more topping and training, Less into nails through the stem, beating your plants with sticks and other nonsense. That's cool.

Turns out mercury vapor lights have their uses. Not sure about the tinfoil hats... yet.

As far as % limits......genetic limits.........I don't think it will progress much farther at all. Until someone breeds out far enough to find the one that has "genetically shifted" over that "wall"....There have been some damn fine strains lost to time from the past.....It's a shame really.......
The "new next best thing" relegates some fire strains to be forgotten and lost...There are things from the past that many of you today will never have the chance to try.......I would trade a lot of what I have today for a cpl of those oldie strains......Shit,,,bet I could win a cup with a cpl of them today!

Oh the fine ass Mexican high quality weed can still be found....Mostly if you travel to the southern Mexican area's - copper country...Belize has it too...Punta Roja's, Guerrero's, Oaxacan's and Michoacan I have seen down there in the southern regions....Small old family farmers as I'm told still carrying on the family's work......So then runs are smaller and the product never makes it north where the cartel's have all the power.....They don't (cartel's) seem to want to bother the traditional (Indian, Incan or Mayan blooded) Mexican locals......Everything is consumed through the tourista trade in the local sense....

Lovely country down there! Far safer then in the north if you hit the nice little spots as far as staying in a resort...No big names, just local places.....DAMN cheap copper ware too!

Doc

Your right on the Acapulco though. I have not seen that in years...Mmm....decades!

Tested lots of brick back in the day. In the 70's there seemed to be some pretty good Mexican, gold, ex. Then the brick started to come in by the truck load and it became hit and miss. By the early 90's, here anyways it was mostly miss and it stopped, just couldnt move it. Then it all changed direction and headed south from here. Now its all changed again and can't compete with the states that are pushing it east. Ahhh retirement lol. So yup the whole industry has changed and always will i guess. As for its strength, and other changes, well it has become kind of generic in my opinion. I have had to lower expectations when growing out new strains but that could also be 35 years of partaking, perhaps abit of inherent immunity. And the overhype of the strain. Oh and when I go to down to Puerto Vallarta every winter its like unloading a truck sometimes its good and sometimes not but still half of it is seed lol.

The science and technology around cannabis has made leaps and bounds. At light speed. No doubt. This is directly related to the relaxation of the law to a degree. If anything marijuana has been hybridized so much that "varieties" have been generically dumbed down to about 10 or 20 basic profiles, if that. Primarily bred and grown for indoor growing. The line between cannabis indica and sativa has been greatly blurred. The diversity of cannabis used to be much greater only 20 years ago. Even moreso before that. True breeding landraces are not being guarded and preserved like tbay should be. Finding them is getting more difficult and the result of all this is that unique strains that have different terpenes and profiles have become extinct. I dont think marijuana has gotten more potent. Not at all. Its just that we figured out what to do with it and have paid ALOT more attention to it , good or bad. The heavy hand of man in an effort to make better cannabis is actually hurting our relationship with the plants uniqueness in unforeseen ways. Like a snake eating its own tail. Alot of what keeps "the scene" going in this day is fueled by hype and word of mouth trends from newer growers that were either too young or just never bothered with awesome and genetically unique cannabis until relatively recently. And alot of bullshitters out there that cant seperate any of it from the real.

Yup! Lots of mutts out there that are hyped as the next chemo, true Kush or AK, most turns out to be mediocre shit. Although the taste has gotten better IMO.

I been beating the hell out some spindly gals in veg. Got them lanky biltches tied and topped LOW in veg. They can now give up the cuts and not even break stride!!! Weekly sprays of Nitrozime really helped my glue, amnesia, and sours. I figure out how to post pix with a lame metro phone i might post them. Been getting much more aggressive lately with topping and tying down. And it shows.
