Something tells me that if the midterms go badly, Donald is going to see a war (or some other cataclysmic event) as his best chance to gain re-election. Given his best buddy's history of blowing up hundreds of Innocents in order to gain power, I shudder to think what may happen.

He's already given militant fascists the nod with his prediction about "violent Democrats". This article sums up what (I think) you and I see as Trump stirring up white fascist violence after the mid-terms.

Trump Is Going to Hit the ‘Violent Democrats’ Button Hard—and It’ll Work
This is what the Republican midterm election campaign will be about: The country will descend into darkness if you give the Democrats any power. Yes, you should worry.

Last week, in his meeting with evangelical leaders, Donald Trump unveiled what I expect will be his closing argument in this campaign, and yes, you should worry about it.

The argument is to link the idea of a Democratic victory to violence. Yes, it’s grotesque and insane, and insanely irresponsible, and all kinds of things. But it also might work.

Democrats should not underestimate this—should not underestimate, that is, the possibility that this midterm might not follow the normal script. If you haven’t been worrying too much about this, I’d advise you add it to your list.

“It’ll work. It’ll get his base revved up to vote. Don’t think these people are going to stay home.”

First of all, this new charge of Trump’s makes no logical sense. Why would Democrats incite violence after winning? If they were going to incite violence, wouldn’t they do so after losing?

But of course they’re not going to incite any violence at all. The only person in American politics, Democrat or Republican, who incites violence is Trump—encouraging people at his rallies to beat up protesters, suggesting that “Second Amendment people” might have a solution for Hillary Clinton. So he’s doing here what every fascistically minded leader in history has done—he’s accusing his opponents of what he does himself, so that when violence erupts, he can say “Aha! See?”

This is what the Republican campaign will be about: The country will descend into darkness if you give the Democrats any power. The Antifa crowd and Black Lives Matter and the haters of white people of all stripes and the child pornographers will all feel empowered. Nancy Pelosi has them all on speed dial. This isn’t a mere matter of legislation, or even of impeachment. It’s a war of culture and blood.

They are using places like Portland Oregon and Berkely CA to practice. It's going to get worse, especially in so-called Sanctuary Cities. My one hope is that people keep turning out in large numbers to counter-demonstrate whenever these fascists show up. They are greatly outnumbered and numbers are our main weapon against them.

Ok, so here's the thing about Trump's China comment.

First off, what is the main goal of the Chinese government? It is to maintain power. Currently the way they are doing that is by ensuring that the Chinese economy keeps growing. The increasing economic prospects of a large swath of the Chinese people means that they are willing to sacrifice freedom for better lives. That is why you have not seen a second Tienanmen Square. The Chinese people (who are known for being long-suffering) will tolerate repression, kidnappings, the imprisonment and re-education of millions, etc. because their lives (of many of them) are finally getting better.

The US/China trade war threatens that economic growth. If Chinese growth slows substantially from the growth in the last 15 years or so, the whole economy could be imperiled and the bubble is at risk of bursting. This would risk political unrest and threaten the government of China, the Communist Party (which is pretty much just a name having little or no connection to actual communism at this point.) This gives us whatever leverage we have over them in matters of trade.

But, if Trump succeeds in alienating the Chinese people themselves, the risk of political turmoil drops substantially as does the leverage that our trade policies. Trump's idiotic comments work directly into the hands of the repressive Chinese government.

The Chinese people have suffered mightily over the last few hundred years (and more). Colonialism, opium wars, prohibition of immigration to the West, all of these things were hurtful and humiliating. And then came the war. No country in the world suffered more than China in WWII. No country fought longer than China. No country lost more people than China. And after the war, there was Mao. The Korean War, the Great Leap Forward, the Cultural Revolution, the one child policy that forced Chinese people to kill their own babies are scars they will carry for generations. Yes, Mao was an internal terror, but one that the average Chinese citizen had no power over. These are the reasons why the economic prosperity of the current age are so powerful a force that they have foregone political reforms. And now they have the added tonic of gaining international military influence.

If there were any way the Chinese leaders could maintain power while accepting lower economic growth that would likely result in a massive depression, they would gladly accept it. Trump may have just handed them a way. By insulting their people directly; by being utterly ignorant of their history and plight, he has done more to forestall actual political reform in China than almost anything else I can think of. The government of China will not be slow to capitalize on his gaff.

As usual, Trump has sacrificed the long term goals of the United States to his own personal interests.

MAGA, motherfuckers.
