Im totally LED FRUSTRATED!!

Ive been using leds for the last year with great success. What is totally frustrating me is every light but 1 that i have has either had driver issues, board issues or melting the IR lense. Thank god for great service and warranties. But im really getting sick and tired of sending lights back and having to use their warranty. Its not just 1 brand either. I have freinds with other notable brands and they are all having similar issues. Some of these lights wont last 60 days b4 they have issues. Can someone please enlighten me on what the hell is going on??? Im ready to go back to my hps lights just because im getting tired of constantly having an issue. Im using bigger leds that draw 550 watts off the wall. Im not going to name any brands---like i said, "all of the notable brands are having issues from either my personal experience or from good reliable growers that i know." Im stoked on production and yeilds!! Reliability is a whole nother issue. This is my big bitch about leds...lol. At what point will the manufacturers figure out how to fix their products issues? Come on already. They keep putting out new stuff and cant even keep the old stuff working long enough to cover the warranty. WTFAlright,,, Back to the morning wake and bake. Thanks for taking the time to read my rant. Oompa times in your garden--wonka

the only light that failed me so far are cheap ufos and some issues with blackstar but the rest, so far so good. I dont know why you wouldnt say any name, why are you so worry about covering these companies reputation, I wouldnt mind if you could tell us what is the big light that you have had issues with and also the others. or make a list of all light you have, just to make sure I dont own any of them! thanks.

I've only heard of issues with the cheap eBay panels (to be expected) and that bad run of Blackstars.

What panels are you having problems with? I'm sure we'd all like to know.

in no particular order....stealth, advanced, blackstar, solarstorm. The only light i havent had issues with is the mag 357(original model.) I know my friends and i arent getting the "bad apple" of the run. Our charma isnt that bad. We each have several lights bought at different times. Some have been updated to correct this, supposedly--which it hasnt worked yet. And others just keep replacing bad parts, or lights. As previously stated,,,, I do love the led technology...its just a frustrating learning curve when dealing with things beyond your control. Its not like its ph issues, cal-mag issues or some issue we as gardeners can overcome. Im not electrical guy at all,,,,i do know how to change out drivers, fans, etc., now...LMFAO. Wonka

What also sucks is some of these manufacturers are now charging the customer shipping both ways. You pay to ship it back and they "kindly" send you a new unit that costs you shipping. Why should we pay shipping when they know their products have issues?.

^^^Couldn't agree more foreverflyhi. It's the only way you can know the quality is truly there. And most of these companies charge you for their expertise, which is bullshit. There's more expertise found here I believe. I'm surprised CLW is on your list Willy, not the others though. I would think CLW would be all over their problem. And I am of the opinion that most problems with LED panels a few months after purchase come from heating problems not production problems, so you may want to try to improve your panels' cooling. And don't sweat the electricity stuff too much. It's not rocket science, right :)?

I have been using LED grow lights now for 2 years and have never had one fail but since I started selling them I have now had one light fail after very little use. I am told that this does not happen very often and I can only hope it is true. I think that manufactures will work out the bugs, it is supplies and distributors that push for newer and greater models and I think this is not allowing the R+D teams to fully test new products before they go into production. You have a very valid point because LED grow lights are far too expensive to have a spare kicking around. Good luck with your lights in the future!

I would bet it is a time thing as well. If R and D test it for 3 months and everything works it will be released. Lots of competition from LEDs right now. and the problem is always the driver. The drivers are made for residential lighting, when we start pushing them for growing it probably increases the failure rate.

We are using Model-T versions of LED grow lights, and I'm sure in 10 years it will be different, and the HPS bulb is from the 60's or something.

Rasser, very impressive...I know very little about building leds ...but my brother is an electrician .he will build me one or 2 if I can give him a manual or something to explain what I need..any ideas? he does not grow or smoke but agreed to build me one and show me how...any good sites or books I should buy or download for him?

At least they replace your light. I've been trying to get in contact
with hydroponics hut for over a 3 months now and still no reply
(IMO) I reckon there a shady led company. Stick to hps, led
technology is still not there yet.
You can pull off a pound easy with a 400w hps and this is from a
single plant grow.

BAHAHAHAHA....What is your secret then!? I still dont think you can get 400 grams with a 400w HPS in one plant...thanks for the chuckle though...

if grown vertically it could be done in hydro...but horizontal would be very difficult..I have never gotten a gram per watt..usually I am .66-.85 gpw.

the only way your going to do this is with a well designed vertical setup.
in which you would need many plants.
