I believe improving the forum search would help but I realize the money problem. Also some people feel safe sitting at home behind a keyboard thinking they are Mike Tyson just because nobody can get face to face with them. I guess it's some type of ego boost for them. Who knows.

I agree with you completely. Prior research is imperative to being able to ask a well thought out question. When I ask a question on a forum about something that I can also google, I consider it "more detailed research" to also learn from others' practical experience. The "mega threads" ares great, but when a newb comes across a 20+ page of posts, do u think hes going read every single one? Do you guys? Several times I see responses that clearly show the poster never read all the OPs explanation and just post generalized info a 3 year old could find on google. I dunno. I also understand that utterly basic questions are going to be posted numerous times in different wordings. That can be frustrating because im a long time member on nanoreef.com a saltwater aquarium forum and the same questions kept getting asked. However there, peope would take the time to post a link to a decent tutorial and in a friendly manner suggest reading more from specific authors. I know we have stickys but they dont all provide a basic faq/ instructions

I've never made tacos, but have read a lot about it. Did you check the pH level of all your ingredients? I'd recommend flushing them next time, add some CalMag, and quit using those cheap taco sauces. Get a good 3 part taco sauce from Advanced Sauces.

Like everyone is saying, its the sheer amount of crap posts. Personally I think stickies are nice and all, but after you fill up half the first page with stickies it starts getting a little ridiculous.
The rating system on here is nice, but its kind of hard to rate a question in the progress of being answered. Maybe so many negative ratings = deletion might help. I dunno, its our community. Lead by example, the more people that keep things clean and serene the less likely you're going to see crap posts out of pure pressure not to be the one junking up the boards.
Anyway, I don't think you can ever get away from people acting like mr.smart guy jackass...if weed has any weakness at all, its making people think they are the albert einstein of horticulture. Funny thing is, anyone would know most of the basic questions if they had just owned a simple houseplant in the past.

I dunno, I haven't seen anything TOO terrible yet. I am a member on another forum where people get banned for racist/antisemetic hatespeech all the time. I remember a member got banned for posting a picture of his semen all over a picture of a moderator that he printed out and jerked off on..... I'm just saying the douchebaggery around here has not gotten anywhere close to the depths that the internet is capable of.
that being said, I think there are definitely still some people around here who take the process of growing weed a bit too seriously or something. I dunno what the draw is to flame someone for asking a question. even if its been posted a hundred times, it takes that much more effort to make a snarky sarcastic post making fun of this dumb noob than it does to simply not post at all.

Read some of Uncle Bucks posts. I've seen some that got pretty heated, not saying that its Uncle Buck being the aggressor. Some other good examples are ANY posts involving Finshaggy. Another thing ive noticed is that some people get upset when someone replies using capitol letters. Also, that's an awesome album.

I don't think it's strictly a matter of taking it too seriously, its more of people tired of helping people out that genuinely don't give a shit about the community they are asking help from (or its rules, guidelines, even common sense). They contribute nothing, they have zero intention on giving anything back, and more than likely never heard from again after posting a question.
I think thats what gets under the skin of some of the high rep vets (whatever that means). They want to help because they love talking about the subject, but after you see your 100th post reading: "Farted in grow room, will this affect my yeild?" (no pics), I think some people get a little loco.
Man I've been here for a couple months, just in that short period of time, I've the assholeness growing,

This forum exists to exchange information and communicate with other people. Redundancy in questions is inevitable, especially on a site that is considered one of the best on the web for up to date information. Some people, especially novices, simply find to get an answer quickly and up to date this is their place to go. I personally have not observed a lot of newbie bashing on this site, but there are always people that are acerbic and/or ignorant, and part of success in life is coping with them, and in a way that is a major reason why I smoke, especially when I am on this lovely site.
