I'm voting for McCain....

McCain, and his tendency to embrace "green" initiatives and liberal agendas, ie, immigration "reform", will hurt everyone, especially the poor, but the rich as well.

Democrats, and Republicans alike, have been in the business of growing government for quite some time. You can not grow government, while increasing government spending, and better the economy. It is impossible. You must shrink government, decrease government spending, and ensure security through defense, and the economy will thrive. It has been tried and it has been successful, ie, Reagan.

Poverty in America is like no other poverty human beings on the planet Earth have ever before experienced. The "poor", on average, have flat screen tv's, 2 cars, etc. etc. This IS NOT poverty. This is "blessed to be an American" poor.

Anyone can change the world. Lee Harvey Oswald comes to mind. America will mourn if Obama is elected.

Socialism......Obama is a Marxist through and through.....he will give our money to the "starving" citizens of the world, while, at the same time, forcing us Americans to adopt rationing of all major commodities, ie, healthcare, energy, food, etc etc. In the end, instead of promoting happiness and success as a virtue of freedom, liberty, ingenuity, and hard work, America will fall to the ranks of the starving and oppressed. Where will the world look for hope, then?

Quote, Ronald Reagan- "America is a shining city upon a hill whose beacon light guides freedom-loving people everywhere."

So, your solution is???
did you expect my solution to contain an immediate end? there is no end, it is a journey for the sake of the journey. the aim is life independent of regulation, but interdependent through choice. it requires the sort of ethical evolution within our culture that can never be attained by forcing the people to do what some consider "the right thing".

i tried to sum it all up with.....
choosing the path that affords the most freedom and patience
.....but i guess that wasn't plain enough. that freedom includes the reduction of governmental interference in all aspects of society, the elimination of nonsensical special interest oriented regulations and subsidies, and an end to the cradle to grave baby-sitting services that the new left has been trying to shove down our throats for decades. our government was never meant to control every aspect of its citizen's lives, its duty is simply to protect the rights of its citizens.

i suppose the "patience" part is the most difficult to swallow. growth of any kind is not without some pain and allowing pain has never gotten anyone elected. having the fortitude to endure the bad along with the good is an integral part of successful change and such characteristics are not encouraged by coddling our weaknesses.

i thought about adding a strong patriotic ending here, but i've never really been much of a patriot. i know that the fall of the u.s. as the world's lone superpower is inevitable and that rabid nationalism is merely a mask to hide our insecurities. the simple fact is that there is no solution, only different experiments to try and different paths to travel. there isn't even any real outcome, merely another fork in the road and another choice to be made. for an eternal pessimist i seem to have an inordinate amount of faith in the eventual victory of enlightened self-interest over the pull of man's baser instincts.

Beautiful, both.....except for that last little bit about "comfortable"....
but the comfortable part is what makes the entire concept so appealing to american voters. in our culture of immediacy, comfort is regarded above all else and something for nothing is the american dream. this country's poor, enslaved by their dependence on the state, are among the most comfortable in the world, but the complaint is still made that others have more. the response of socialists is to demand that the rich be forced to share their wealth, all the time knowing that the poor will always exist and that such redistribution will only serve to bring the successful down a notch or two. the result can only be more citizens enrolled in the ranks of poverty, more of us enslaved by the state and a larger bureaucratic payroll siphoning off the wealth of the nation. but at least our poverty will be a comfortable one and that is the selling point.

you and i may not be "comfortable" as the indentured servant of the nanny state run amok, but those without the foresight to recognize the trappings of their slavery will be more than willing to trade their freedom of choice for a big screen tv and the illusion of security.

Yes. Although, the comfortable affluence the "poor" enjoy in America, currently, is siphoned from a large pool of wealth; the industrious, intelligent, hard worker called the "rich". When the voting ranks of the recipients of the government handouts swell to over half of the voting base, the government who they vote in, the self serving government they vote in, will ALWAYS vote to siphon at a faster rate. This can only last so long before we are communist America. The result will be breadlines, rationing, suffering much like the rest of the oppressed poor, the real poor, experience the world over. The industrious, intelligent, hard worker, who is now also poor, will either join the fray, or flea. This is when the standard of comfort will take a nose dive.
