I've read a few places that interrupting the night cycle with one hour of light during vegetation will produce more females. is that true?

there has been a lot of questions about this lately - kind of curious...
the only legitimate reason i've heard to use 18/6 is if your lights make your room too hot and the six hours of darkness may help cool things off.
but i'm no expert and will change my mind if the evidence changes.

alright i did a little experiment today. checking out my 1 week old plants at lights on 12pm last night. then again just as the lights when off at 6pm. took a good look at the growth each time. the second set of leaves progressed somewhat over the course of the day. checked on them again at lights on tonight. considerably MORE growth over the night cycle! does this mean anything tho?
is this a valid experiment to do with seedlings? or is seedling growth so rapid it makes actually measurement of growth due to light difficult?

I thought i saw more growth when i went to 18/6 on my first grow too. but the growth is more stem and root i believe and even more my imagination. never real development. I mean science says they need light to grow. they dont "know" theyre missing dark, they just know they need to get all big and lovely. Ive been on 24 my second grow

the plant will be able to use 24 hrs of light for veg, but at 18.5 hrs is like the point of diminishing returns so people will use it to save on power without a huge loss in growth as opposed to 24 hrs, i use 18 hour veg when im growing in the summer so i can turn the lights off when its hottest during the day otherwise its 24/7
