Well I hate cigarettes, so I would be the last to answer that question about public smoking because of my bias, but the "airlines" are not in control of the airport...each state has an airport authority ( just like sea ports are under port authority )...the airport authority falls under the FAA which sets the regulations that all airports must follow...

i hate cigarettes also, i just hope you don't hate the people who use them or wish to deny them there privileged to smoke them.

Just counting highways, 32,788 of them last year. It was the lowest number since something like 1949. It's dropped a large bit in the last decade. It used to run between 50,000 to nearly 60,000 per year.

By the way I was one of those Fat sweaty old men (as refered to in another post) to help pay off my student loan.About the time of 9/11. Better one of them, than the morrons who go through security and doesn't under stand " Please place your keys coins and other metal objects in the bucket please" If you did this all day with the ruling morron ilite you would become a Fat sweaty old man to and yes ladies your underwire bra does look like a couple of smiley faces on the X-ray machine.

Now this is funny, a host of us were saying this very thing when Bush was in office and we were constantly told that we were disrespecing those who died on 9/11 and that the terrorists were a sneakey, dangerous bunch that would get us sooner or later and that we were fools to not be afraid of "the terrorists". Gee, What happened I wonder.

as pointed out above, a lot of us are not looking at the whole picture here. yeah the TSA take it over the line in there sexual harassment, i can't think of single job i have ever had were i could get away with what they do.

but thats all beside the point.

they effective prevented a congress man from reaching a congressional meeting, granted this time is wasn't a big deal, it wasn't a major meeting, and it was only 1 congress man. but if we accept that it is ok to bar certain congress men from reaching congressional meets how long b4 some ppl begin to use it for there own ends. signing bills and law in the middle of the night with the minimum number of sigs ring any bells? how many other countries have been plagued but such antics? what will it mean when they can prevent the opinions of whole states from being present in congress?

So... everyone would have put seat belts and air bags in their vehicles before they did, except that they didn't - claiming rightfully that it cost money and the public wouldn't stand for it. But the Government forced them to be installed and lo and behold, they saved lives. Oh, there might be some air bags and seat belts in some cars - as a premium package but there would be cars sold that didn't have them. The problem is not mandates.

Someone else would pay lip service to freedom and liberty and you'd probably be okay with that and go on your merry way. Rand Paul respects the reasons our country was founded on.


A decade after the TSA was created following the September 11 attacks, the author of the legislation that established the massive agency grades its performance at “D-.”

“The whole program has been hijacked by bureaucrats,” said Rep. John Mica (R. -Fla.), chairman of the House Transportation Committee.
“It mushroomed into an army,” Mica said. “It’s gone from a couple-billion-dollar enterprise to close to $9 billion.”
As for keeping the American public safe, Mica says, “They’ve failed to actually detect any threat in 10 years.”
“Everything they have done has been reactive. They take shoes off because of [shoe-bomber] Richard Reid, passengers are patted down because of the diaper bomber, and you can’t pack liquids because the British uncovered a plot using liquids,” Mica said.
“It’s an agency that is always one step out of step,” Mica said.
It cost $1 billion just to train workers, which now number more than 62,000, and “they actually trained more workers than they have on the job,” Mica said.
“The whole thing is a complete fiasco,” Mica said.

Asked whether the agency should be privatized, Mica answered with a qualified yes.
“They need to get out of the screening business and back into security. Most of the screening they do should be abandoned,” Mica said. “I just don’t have a lot of faith at this point,” Mica said…
“We are one of the only countries still using this model of security,” Mica said, “other than Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, and I think, Libya.”

i wonder if that last sentence is true?
