Is The Mars Hydro a good led?

Mars leds arent that bad. Good if heat is a concern or you wanna pick up a little side lighting. I used the 60x5(135w, $60), also had a mars400. Wouldn't recommend the 2 series over the eBay models though. I've used mars 300s(60x5) for seedling/veg over a 2'x2' each, or a 1.5'x1.5' to flower. Only used them once to flower, pulled .5gpw my first grow with some 70day seed to weed autoflowers, so it's a perfectly fine light. But if I could manage heat, I would take hps over it, watt for watt.

Problem with them is that poor spread. Here's the Mars1200(540w) par chart they provide.

60x5 = 300 @ 60% efficiency = 130w roughly

Is that too difficult to comprehend?

Are you sure about those figures?

I'd put it like this 60(diodes) x 5W = 300W(Mars maths) but they are driven @ roughly 60% of there maximum capacity, so yep that's 130W.

Well not quite it's actually 180W

180W is not made up of light, I'll be incredibly generous and give them 40% light and 60% direct heat.
So now we have a figure closer to 72W and then we have to factor in the losses via the glass around 7% which now gives us 66.96W of LIGHT.

In fact it's a better heater than light, go figure.

You have and many others including myself have been successful with Mars lights, myself and many others are highly critical of Mars Hydro as a result of appalling losses incurred
due to their utterly contemptible treatment of customers regarding warranty issues. Including lights that are mere months old.

Already converted a Mars 400W which drew 192W with 4 cobs CXB3070 BB 3500K on their drivers (88% efficient) sitting on around 125W and let me tell you it runs 8C cooler than the Mars 400W sitting 6" from it. And it's killing the Mars Hydro 400W.

I also have a mars 2 400 thats not being used. I ordered a bunch of cxb2530 chips like half price from Cutter and I was going to do the conversion thats on youtube. Do you know the specifics of the drivers in that LED? Id like to know whats inside before I pull the whole thing apart. I have a 5w led version, about a year old...

Of the driver in the Mars 400?

Yes, 2 reptile cfls to boost UVB.

All i know is this setup destroyed my AIO 150w HPS.

The mars is in the veg room now since I have CXBs for my flower tent.

Needless to say, the mars performed better than anyone in this forum claimed, and I never once had a single issue that apparently so many in this forum have experienced.

The only issue I found with the mars is it's horizontal spread is shit. I noticed a lot of stretch on the outer edges of the tent. People just need to be aware of what the mars CAN cover effectively.

I can't even count how many people I've seen on this forum try and and use 2 mars300 panels to cover a 4x4 tent and come on this forum and bitch and complain how they didn't come to close to matching their 600w HPS. Those people are idiots and have flooded these forums with alot of bullshit information.

It's not a bad light, especially being under 100 dollars.

are you talking the new mar's 300's or the old ones? just curious i intend to try marsII 400w

If a grower has a "Small" budget and is not, yet, capable of allocating additional funds to better lighting for whatever legitimate reason.

Yes...MarsHydro develops decent LED arrays. The arrays only lack ultra violet(UV) radiation supplementation. Other manufacturers lack UV and infrared. For those who are wanting to let the plant develop at peak genetic potential, UV and infrared must be included.

Thank you. i was planning on trying the 400w marsII and if i had to in flowering adding another one or a different LED light never grown before but since it's became legal in my state figured why not.

Any Led's you'd suggest? from what i've read so far here most seem to go the DIY route im just not comfortable with that yet

As you have surmised, a lot of forum users, at this website, build their own light. I am currently using a mars-hydro 48 x 3 watt reflector in a 21" x 21" x 60" space. "Churtmunk" listed off a few decent COB based LED array companies. I personally will be building a COB based LED array.

The Mars reflector 96 has two uv leds
The older style Mars didn't

I have 2 of the 192x 3 reflectors, and they have been running 18 on 6 off for 14 months now with no rest time.. i have lost 4 blue diodes in 440nm range because they get hot and the lens will turn black... there great for the cost!!

you have any picture's of the some of the results you've gotten with them? seem's to be a lot of mixed feelings on premade led's everyone i've talked to keeps saying get something like Black dog but i'm not willing to shell out that much cash yet like i said never grown before
