Basically it is giving off a nasty odor/taste which I first thought might be poorly flushed or treated for a pest shortly before harvest. It gives a great stone and is working fine for my pain but I find it hard to enjoy it without the sweet smell/taste.

after about 8 hours in water the water was a nasty brownish colour, I changed the water and it is now more greenish which leads me to believe that something was being drawn out, be it chemicals or something.

Mould was a concern due to the health implications of, well, smoking mould lol. I am lead to believe that it is bubblegum cheese so I understand a large amount of the white is THC but it just doesn't look "right" compared to a normal cheese strain. The buds were lovely and crispy which is where the confusion is coming from (since mould would be damp), unless it had mould before being dried and the mould is still present but not moist.

I am now using the water cure technique from this forum to try and clean it out, or atleast get rid of the nasty taste and smell. I realise this is not going to be as good as doing it from harvest but I am reluctant to bin a half oz especially since it is for medical use.

You mentioned an odor, mold is pretty distinct stinkiness. Think musty, or clothes you forgot put move from the washer to the dryer for 3 days. Harsh flavor could be a number of reasons, but if it was mold the smell would be a dead giveaway. Mites supposedly vacate the buds during drying/curing, but a dead mite would probably make poppy noises and smell like burning hair or something along those lines when burned. They look ok however, if I found a bag of it lying around I would smoke it.

all i can see is a few clear threads in your bud but that could of come from anywhere and just clinged to the wet sticky buds, do you have a jewlers eye glass, you will be able to see spider mites through them as i have had 1 problem with them in the past, they look like tiny clear little spiders some can be red depending on there age, i would definatly check before you put that into your lungs,
