Jebus' Indian Haze and Brazil x KC grow journal

Okay, so I am going to start flowering Ashley. Problem is I got my schedule screwed up again. I was planning to do 24 hours of darkness but forgot that that would mean her current dark time will now be the light time. I even had been backing her up an hour every couple of days to make it work out better. So here are my options. I can go straight to 12/12 and keep the lights in sync with the other grow box, I can do 24 hours of dark and then the light periods will be different for the two boxes, or I can do 36 hours and keep them in sync.

Now if I did 24 hours and had opposing light periods do you think that would help with heat in the room or make it rise? Right now I have them go off just before dark and let the house cool so when they come on it slowly starts heating up. The house is naturally at its hottest right after nightfall. Then by midnight it starts getting cooler and by morning it is a touch cold when they turn back on. Would it be better to have them at opposite times so that less heat is being produced at one time but heat is being produced all day and all night, or have them coincide so that all the heat is generated at the same time and then no heat for the rest?

Let me know if that didn't make sense.

Also if I do 36 hours of dark is this too much and do I run the risk of stressing her?

I always go straight to 12/12.
Actually I just keep my cab in flower
and throw more in when some finish.
I think if you go with a long dark period you'll get quite a bit of stretch.
Any particular reason for the dark period.
I keep my 12 on from 7am to 7pm
because my A/C runs more often and keeps the cab cooler.
But everyone's setup is different.

Tia and Marsha are looking great and showing more pistils. Tia is a touch ahead but not by much, and she doesn't have any new male flowers.

Ashley had about 24 hours of darkness and just started her light period for day 1 of flowering. She is taller, bushier, and not too stretched out compared to the last set of pics from 3 days ago. I also notice an8-pointed leaf near the tip of her true main cola.

End of day 23 for Marsha and Tia. Tia's buds are filling out more and more although they are still very immature. Marsha is still a touch behind and definitely a slightly darker color. Maybe a slight difference in phenotype, or some environmental factor. One has more perlite than the other so maybe it is something like that. The lights are off now and I decided to add an hour of darkness so they will wake up an hour later. This might be a good jump start for them.

Ashley just started day 2 of flowering and I can't even tell. No pistils anywhere, but she is beginning to stretch some. I tied down her branches a little more to spread her out better.

Temps have been excellent the last few day. Thanks Gumball for the suggestion about the fans! Sometimes the best fixes are also the easiest. I bet I get some nice coloring from Ashley towards the end. Cold and stress really bring out purple in the KCxBrazil. Right now she looks perfect and very healthy because the temps stay around 72-81 depending on if the lights are on or off. I also think the better temps are why she is growing so much faster with very lush and soft new growth.

I got my smart pots the other day so I'll be using those for my next grow and I have a bake-a-round glass piece coming for when I build a grow-fridge. I may actually have two because I put out a bid on another thinking someone else would outbid me on this one.

I was going over Tia very carefully and thought everything was fine and then I noticed a small bunch of male flowers on one of her branches. I ripped them off and looked on that branch some more and they were all over it. Just one or two but they were growing in the buds. So I chopped the whole branch and looked some more. There was another branch with more growing in the buds so I chopped her down completely.

Marsha on the other hand looks completely normal. She has a deep green color and her leaves are shiny. Her bud formation is comming along and I suspect she'll start to fill out in the next few weeks. I still have about 7 1/2 weeks to go with her though.

No signs of flowering on Ashley, but she looks great. I was thinking about moving her into the same box as Marsha but they are on opposite light/dark schedules. Do you all think it would be okay to give her another 24 hours of darkness to get her on the same schedule? I could also slowly adjust her times and wake her up an hour later every day until they coincide. I'd like to get her into the other box to save on electricity and I'd be able to start some new seeds to get in another harvest before X-Mas.

Another thing about the lights... Marsha is on a 13/11 schedule because she is a sativa and Ashley a 12/12 because she is indica dominant. If I put them on the same schedule which should I go with? Will a 13/11 schedule tend to make an indica ripen before it resin glands have fully developed? Will the indica be underdeveloped from not enough light? Would a sativa be better off with the longer nights? Would the shorter nights make it result in premature flowers with mature resin glands? Or am I worrying about this too much?

your welcome on the fan suggestion, glad it helped.

sorry about tia, that sucks.

i have read various things on light schedules, but i think a lot of it is more forum myth, ya know. but without testing it myself it will really stay that. i have read that outdoor anything under about 14 hours will begin to flower a plant. i do not see why indoors would not be any different in regards to that. i think the 13/11 may take a little longer to finish, but the harvest will prob be better.

Actually I think it's the other way around. They flower faster with less light because more of the hormone that induces flowering is present, but they yield less because they need light to pack on the pounds.

oh, ok, thanks for clearing that up.

Just checked on Ashley and there are a few hairs popping out of the tips of a few of the colas.

awesome man, congrats!!

Here are some new pics of Marsha. I pulled her branches a little lower to fan them out more after these pics. She takes up just over half the box now. We'll see how it works once I move Ashley in with her. I may need to loosen them up a bit. I'm kind of worried she may stretch out and reach the lights though. She's loving the cooler temps and really growing now. My house is around 67-70 and her box stays around 75-77. Ashley's box tends to hang at 80.

Well I did a little research to get a refresher on the Brazil x KC genetics and it turns out she is mostly sativa. I was thinking she was indica dominant. Flowering time was listed as 7-10 on the Attitude website and a review I found on google said to expect 9-12 weeks. Tends to have a strong flavor that can be unpleasant to some. The review said it had a musky flavor more suited for "age-old tokers". With a sweet and fruity musk aroma. It has a strong cerebral high accompanied by a body stone of considerable magnitude, and a high that lasts for a long time.

The guy reviewing it said he only flowered his two plants for 52 and 60 days. The early one went hermie and the later could have grown for another week. He also got two completely different phenos. One that was on the Brazil side and the other on the Haze side. I'm guessing the haze was flowered longer although he didn't specify.By the time he chopped it she had a few bananas also. He thinks this was a sign they were both nearing the end of their flowering stage.

That review was from 2003. This was around the time when KC had a bad rap for putting out inferior seeds but since then many say he has turned it back around. So far I like it. She definitely looks more sativa now with the internodal stretching and her leaves becoming elongated since I induced flowering. No signs of her going hermie though, which is a miracle with the horrible lighting control and heat stresses she has been put through. The only negative I have seen so far is that she got all knotted up, but I think that was due to the few months of heat during which she stopped growing. When it got cooler and she restarted she grew in on herself. Her true main cola has caught up to the rest of her branches though.

In the last pic the branch in the front center is her main cola, and the one right before is a close-up of it.

Marsha got a little dehydrated even though she still felt heavy like there was water at the bottom of her pot. Saggy leaves and even one droopy bud. I watered her and within an hour she was looking much better.

Ashley is doing great. Looks very healthy and just doing her thing.

This was an hour or two later when Marsha was doing much better. A little side by side comparison.

I put them both in the new box just as an experiment. When I start the new seed I plan to have them both in there. Although it is a bit tight. Will probably have to loosen some tie downs and let them lift up a little.

The last few days I've been putting some mylar on cardboard inside the box to so all that light going down to the bottom isn't wasted. Plus it may bounce some in towards that lower, shaded growth. I have the edge resting right on the lip of the pot.

Some pics from this morning right before I left for the weekend. Marsha is looking great now. Leaves pointing straight out and just healthy all around. I watered her again just in case my weekend trip is too long.
