I just flipped to 12/12 I'm using white widow x big bud and big bomb, it says 70-80 days to harvest.

should I start counting from today?

Depends on what you're counting. If you're trying to come up with a start date for official flowering, then that's when you're seeing the first sign of really strong healthy pistil/bud growth. That doesn't usually start until a week after flip, or up to two weeks. So really you should ignore that first week or two and THEN start counting. Otherwise, at the other end you'll wonder why your 8-week flowering plant is taking 9.5 weeks!

  1. If white "hairs" are almost all sticking straight out and trichomes are all still translucent (clear) then your plant is too young and not ready for harvest. Harvesting now will result in low yield and non-potent harvests.
  2. The beginning of the harvest window opens when your plant has stopped growing new white "hairs" or pistols and at least 40% of the white hairs have darkened and curled in.
  3. Highest level of THC is when many/most of the trichomes have turned milky white / cloudy (when viewed under a magnifier). Trichomes that are milky have the highest levels of THC and contribute to a more euphoric 'head high.'
  4. The end of the harvest window is when the trichomes have become a darker color (usually amber/gold). The amber/yellow trichomes contribute to a 'body high' because some of the THC has converted into less psychoactive CBN, which has calming and anti-anxiety effects. With some strains the trichomes will even turn red or purple!
  5. When trichomes start looking grey or withered, the harvest window has passed.
Want more of a 'head high'? Harvest your buds earlier, when only 40% of hairs have darkened and curled in and trichomes are part clear/ part milky or mostly cloudy/milky.
For the "strongest" marijuana buds with the most psychoactive effects, harvest when almost all trichomes are cloudy/milky.
For more relaxing, anti-anxiety buds, wait until at least some of the milky / cloudy trichomes have darkened to amber. More amber = more relaxing, though the effects may be somewhat less psychoactive. Remember, curing your buds properly for at least 2 weeks to a month will give them more of an anti-anxiety effect.

I'm trying to have my harvest done by August 20th
you can honestly harvest when ever you want. Patience is the number one key to growing. Your plant will be done when its done. You cant really put a time frame on that. Every breed of Marijuana grows different and takes different amount of time. I know it sucks, i wish they could flower over night but hey thats why its an art. You will be way more satisfied if you wait for your trichomes to have turned milky white / cloudy

I am growing WW x BB aswell and flipped 2 days ago. My seeds say 7-8 weeks as a guideline but I never believe them. Mine was from Female Seeds.
I would of thought time wise should be ok. I am planning to cut down by end of aug but see what happens. I don't have any time restraints unlike yourself. Hope harvest is big and juicy for you.

I'm moving by the end of August, that is why.
Well...there is a theory (ive never tried this) that come flowering time, instead of doing a 12/12 you do a 8/12. Its says that its suppose to make it seem like the days are going by faster. Dont take my word for it. just something ive read over the years. i have always waited but best of luck with your grow. I hope you make it a success

What kind of move? The pack-everything-up-and-drive-across-the-country-for-two-weeks kind of move, or just across town? If you're just going across town, you could probably harvest right before you move, hang the plants upside down in a garment box and get them into the new place. Don't do the full dry (I'm assuming you're doing a slow dry of a week to 10 days) in the garment box, just use it for transport because the cardboard is treated. But a short move across town would be fine.

But if you're taking a few days to drive somewhere, you're going to have to be done with hanging and everything should be trimmed and jarred. You can keep an eye on the jar's humidity with a hygrometer and open the jars when needed to prevent mold.

Good luck!
