Justiceman's grow: The quest for Resin

Hey everyone day 12 here. I know the posts have been frequent but I like to keep everyone updated on the new happenings. So far the growth has been excellent for just 12 days. I have one possible problem though. I believe I might have "toxic salt" build up and it seems to affect the Green Cush more then the Grandaddy. However I don't use any salts, except for Earth juice natural PH up witch consists of potassium bicarbonate(certified for organic crop production) I have heard that with organics its unnecessary to PH adjust but having a 4.0 ph tea is a little scary to me so I had to bump it up to 6. Should I just not worry about the low ph and give it to them without the ph adjust? In any case here are some pictures of the standing leaf fringes. I have heard that these symptoms occur when the leaf is trying to get rid of excess moisture but is unable to because of either, salt build up, or heat stress. I know I don't have heat stress because my temps don't get above 76 so I really think its build up of this Natural PH UP. I think I am just going to run straight water through them in order to hopefully flush out the excess salts. good idea?

And here is just a family shot

Hey everyone the leaf fringe curl I talked about is going away because I have just been using straight water since the last tea so it was definitely some type of toxic salt build up probably coupled with some heat stress as well.

Everything is going just fine at the moment though. My Green Cush seem to be 2x as vigorous then the grandaddy. I have done all the same things to them. I assume that the grandaddy is a little more temperamental but she is coming along at her own pace. The last water I gave them was R/O and molasses(to feed the herd).

I may start flowering these girls in a couple days with a 600w. Thinking about either getting a Lumatek or a Next Gen any suggestions on what digi I should get?

I LSTed the GC so that canopy could be more consistent as they were much taller then the GD. I am always open to comments and suggestions. Enjoy the pics!

Just had to give a close up of this Grandaddy. She seeks the light fellow brethren

Lights out. For some reason my camera is being a bit shotty with the color. It's and old 4 mega pixel cannon power shot. Pretty decent but bare with me. For some reason when I take a farther shot it still leaves a redish tint to the picture, but when I do a close up it's different because the flash is concentrated.

Loook great justice, they all are real happy.... Is that Powdery Mildew I see?
Or just reflection of the flash? I have a 600 Lumatek and a 400/600 NextGen, both are great
I woud recommend the nextgen, runs cooler.. Just make sure you are getting a bulb thats
RATED for electronic ballasts.. The new Electronic/Digital Ballasts run above 22,000 Hertz,
classic HPS/MH's are designed to run at 60hz... Check SunPulse Lamps, they are the next
generation of "digital" light bulbs, the best for plant growth

Are you talking about those little brown spots? I believe it was the start of a P deficiency because of nutrient lockout. I tested my ppm run off and it was 1500! I have only given them one 350ppm tea that high ppm level must be the residual raw nutes that came in the soil. I ran some water through them to get it down to around 650 witch is fine, but the run off still reads 5.4ph I question if that's to low. I thought that the oyster shell flour in the soil would buffer the PH, but I am thinking I need to add some dolomite or hydrated lime to raise the ph a bit. However the Green Cush are doing just fine and don't seem to give a damn. Seems like the Grandaddy is more on the finicky side. Definitely considering NextGen for sure. The 400/600 sounds really useful as well. I was also thinking about Quantum as well.

Okay guys. It's end of day 24 into vegetation. It is now time to move into the flowering phase. Earlier on I ran into what I believe to have been a lack of calcium and magnesium but I have fixed it. I started to get some necrotic spots on a few GD leaves and a little bit of interveinal chlorosis along with some slight yellowing. The symptoms have stopped their progression after I added some cal mag to the regiment. I will provide some pictures of the Deficiency. The Good news is the GC are doing very well, and have exploded with growth. Since the GC have gotten so tall I have decided to induce flowering. I recently picked up a 600w Galaxy with a Hortilux lamp. It is much brighter then my 400w and has a much greater lumen dispersion rate. The 600w Galaxy ballast itself seems to run just as cool as my 400w lumatek ballast! Very satisfying indeed. One thing I would like to point out(some people probably already know) is that running a 600w at 12/12 pulls the same amount of power as a 400w at 18/6.
600w x 12h = 7200w
400w x 18h = 7200w
So using a 600w for flower doesn't really bring your costs up accept for the actual purchase of the ballast and lamp. However using it doesn't bring your energy costs down as would using a 400w for 12/12 but the yield is supposed to be much greater with a 600w so its a better choice.

On a side note It seems that I have a few Gnats flying around. I think I am just going to use some Gnatrol(Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis) to get rid off those little buggers. Here is a last day picture of vegetation Enjoy!

Last vegetation picture.
(note: I didn't do a lot of feeding during this veg period as there was enough food in the soil. I only used one Roots brew, but obviously the brews will be more frequent for flowering)

Deficiency picture
(note: she has greened up since then, and looks a lot happier. the deficiency did end up progressing a littler further then this picture but I am quite sure the deficiency is mostly dealt with)

Day 6 flower
Hey everyone thought I would just show you some growth progression. So far some pistils are starting to form but not much yet. Well it's only day 6 so i can't expect much yet of course.
I gave them a tea about 3 days ago witch consisted of:
(3 gallons of r/o water)
Big buddah grow 10ml
Big budda bloom 15ml
Extreme serene 10ml
Trinity 15ml
Ancient amber 45ml
Hp2 20ml
hpk 10ml
170ppm of cal mag(forgot how many ml's that was)
molasses 5ml(later on in the tea to facilitate bacteria growth).

I Fed the tea to the plants at 6.5. It's Ph rose naturally from the bacteria growth. Here is a pic. My new picture technique is taking a picture right when the light starts to turn on, because it puts out a blue light for a few seconds before it starts to turn orange redish. My camera doesn't have any fancy white meter or options like that. It still uses SD cards haha.

Hey hope everyone is going to have a good Christmas! I have an update for you guys. I am week 2 into flowering, and things are going quite well. Earlier on I ran into what I believed to be a Mg deficiency, so I foliar sprayed with liquid karma last week, and then I sprayed with Earth Juice micro blast this week. Fortunately I curbed the deficiency because the newest growth is greening up again. Just to be sure I got some cannazym(enzyme product like hygrozyme) and gave them a brew of Cannazym, Liquid Karma, Micro blast, Cal mag, and some light vegan compost tea. I watered with that in order to break up any dead roots and unlock some nutrients trapped in the soil as well as provide the missing trace minerals, and some light food. Next watering will be a heavier fertilizer because now that I covered up the Mg deficiency the girls are starting to tell me they need a little more nitrogen so I am going to up the Roots dosage. Tell me what you guys think! comments and suggestions appreciated.

HPS wash

Earlier photos of the deficiency progressing. It did progress a little further then that as in a bit more interveinal chlorosis and yellowing, but I was able to stop it. I can tell because the newest growth isn't coming out as yellow as before. It's greening up. the Liquid Karma and Micro blast are good to have on hand.

So I know its only been a few days since my last post but I recently figured out that my camera does in fact have a white balance meter. It is not as good as newer cameras but it gets the job done. I actually feel really stupid for not figuring out that it has a white balance meter until now hahaha. I didn't get the manual with it as a friend gave it to me a while back. The buds seem to be forming quite well so far. I am excited.

In any case here are a few pics with white balance.

Here is the official 3 week update. All has been well except for the slight N deficiency witch is being worked out as we speak. 12 hours ago I fed them with 270ppm of cal mag. I have recently been giving them only about 150 to 170ppm witch apparently for these girls is a little bit on the light side.

Aside from N everything seems to be going just fine. Here are a few pics for you guys. I have some soft core bud porn for ya as well as a pic taken with the HPS on just about half an hour ago.

(w/HPS on) I used tungsten mode. It came out pretty good so I thought you guys might like it.

wow, been a while since I checked this spot, lookin great man, everything
seems to be workin out real well
Thanks for stopping by shrub I really appreciate it.

So it's the beginning of week 4 and I am starting to see some good things here. My quest for resin is progressing quite nicely. The fruits of my labor have begun to show themselves.

Info:
I have been giving them about 250ppm of cal mag every watering and they still seem a little bit on the yellowish side though. I think I might even bump it up to 350 to be honest. I have also been giving them some earthjuice microblast on occasion to supplement trace minerals even though the extreme serene should do that I feel that it's to powerful to increase it's dosage since it might throw off npk ratios.

The roots organics tea's have been going quite well for me. I am starting to get the hang of how long to brew them for before they are ready. I use to think it took 2-3 days to brew, but that was because I didn't realize my aquarium heater wasn't working. After I replaced that the ph raises from 4.0 to 7.0 in a little bit less then 24 hours. Microbes don't mess.

Problem: So I have encountered those bastard Fungus gnats probably because of my medium and its moisture retention(peat). I have heard that fungus gnat larvae and eggs generally come in any type of peat based products. Although it is also because I probably didn't amend with enough perlite, croutons, or anything for that matter. The roots soil had plenty of perlite and I thought it had enough drainage but now after it compacting I am finding that It would have probably been better to amend it with some more aerating materials. In any case what's done is done. My aim as of now is to destroy them. I have heard of a biological control called gnatrol witch contains Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis. I may use that. I also remember reading about the use of predator nematodes. Those interest me greatly, because they end up living in your medium for the rest of the time therefore providing 24/7 security and they don't attack your plant in anyway. My aim kill the larvae with gnatorl or nematodes, and trap the adults with either sticky traps, or a rotting fruit, soap, water mixture.

Enough gnat talk. It is time for the bud shots. I hope you guys enjoy the resin as much as I.

not as green as they could be but still decent i suppose.

Hey guys so It's the beginning of week 5. Everything is going a bit better then last time I posted. I have gained control over the fungus gnats by placing a saucer of beer in the tent(they cannot resist). I upped the cal mag dosage to 350ppm and they have greened up slightly but not as much as I would like. I just gave them a roots tea that was about 900ppm. Hopefully that will also help with the greening as well(there was about 300ppm cal mag in the roots tea).

I have basically fixed the humidity problem as well. I ordered a 40pint dehumidifier, and for now I adjusted my exhaust to flow outside, so that it at least keeps the humidity at night down to 60% instead of 70%, but when I get the dehumidifier I will keep it down to at least 50%.

So other then the slight N problem the bud production still seems to be going quite well. Fortunately I have a friend that picked up the same cuttings I did at the same time and he decided to mother them so maybe I can get some more cuts later on and really dial in strains. I am sure that If I could have curbed this N problem earlier I could probably have yielded more in the end. Oh well I should still get something nice. And its a good learning experience for next time around. I'm still really excited about the resin though! Here are some pictures for you guys.

Justiceman-

Ive used RO for about 6 months now and love it... I havent used any foliar spray on any of my grows, Is it ok to use extreme serene with water by itself for a good foliar spray?

So it's day 42 of flower! These strains don't take to long either. They are supposed to be "generally" 60 days. I am thinking about starting to feed just plain water after about day 50 maybe even a tad sooner. The Green Cush will finish before the Grandaddy as more of it's hairs are turning orange then the Grandaddy. Only thing is the Green Cush unfortunately still has that N problem. I have increased cal mag to 300-350 every watering, plus I increased the Veg base of the Roots slightly a while ago, but she must just be a really heavy eater. At this point I'm not to worried about greening the GC up, but I want to make sure the GC stay fairly healthy until harvest time. The grandaddy are turning purple though. I am pretty happy about that. Not to mention they all smell wonderful.

Forgot to mention that I got my dehumidifier on monday, and it does wonders. Daytime humidity 40%, Nighttime humidity 48%. Went with a 40pt. Man it is surprising how much water gets sucked out of the air.

So here are some pictures for ya!

Wk 7(day 49)

Hey everyone so here is my week 7(day 49) update. Everything is going well. I just administered a heavy roots tea yesterday consisting of EWC, Guano(high P), molasses, and cal mag. The resin production is coming along just fine. The bud formation is also quite decent considering the obvious N deficiency. I am assuming that these strains finish at about 9 weeks. At least that is what my research online has told me. Plus a lot of the hairs are starting to turn orange. I know that trichomes are the true indication but hairs turning are one of the signs to start inspecting the trich's more thoroughly if I'm not mistaken. In any case I will probably start giving the GD only water from here on out and possibly give one or 2 more feeding's to the GC before I start giving her just water as she looks fairly flushed already. Let me know what you guys think! Here are some pictures for ya!

I have an update here for you guys. Right now It's actually Week 7 day 55 but I just felt like posting the 8 week update today on my day off. So day 55 it is!

The time has come to watch for peak harvest point my friends. They are all looking nice and frosty. Most of the hairs are died back, and I am ever so slightly starting to see the beginning of amber tricks on the leaf tips. Just barely If anything. They have definitely fattened up about as much as they want to.

I know if I was on top of my N, and Cal Mag this round I would have yielded more and I would have possibly gotten more frost. But this was a good learning experience and I will implement my knowledge gained from this quest into the next quest. My aim is to improve my skills with every mistake. Well at least they say that under feeding is better then over feeding.

So about 4 days ago I watered with straight water and a very slight amount of molasses(about 2ml per gallon) just to bring the water PH down and add a little bit of energy for the microbes to finish off the immobilized nutrients. Then last night I gave them a nice straight R/O watering, and I will continue to give them pure R/O until harvest time(witch is going to be somewhere between this Thursday and next) Let me know what you guys think!

Here are some picture for you guys:

Hey guys I just thought I would throw this picture up. It's in the HPS light with flash on. I think it looks pretty cool so I thought you might too.

So I have noticed that I don't get to many comments on my grow journal anymore. Is it because you guys find it uninteresting? Not detailed enough? Mediocre grow job? Bad strains? Well I will probably end up finishing this journal and then call it quits on creating any new ones unless I get a little bit of feedback on my updates. I may have not stated this clearly in the OP. This journal is meant for only a few things.
1.To show you what I can do
2. To get some constructive criticism
3. To answer any questions pertaining to my grow or growing organically in general
4. To give you information and help you improve your grow unless you know more then me
5. To provide you with bud porn.
6. To discuss Growing.

Harvest is right around the corner! It is day 57 right now, and the trichs are about 70% milky 30% clear. I am aiming for about 80-90 percent milky, 10-20% amber, or something in that ballpark range. Next round I am planning on doing Straight Canna coco(possibly amended with 30% croutons), with Pure Blend Pro nutes, Cannazym, Roots excelurator, Liquid karma, Cal mag, Roots oregonsim XL, Great white michorhizae(with bacteria too), and possibly EWC, guano, kelp tea every now and then. You decide whether you want the Quest to continue or not!
So leave me some comments guys! let me know what you think!;)
