Hey!
It's been awhile, ... but, I'm back!
Been out on the farm, .. no not that kind of farm, a farm farm, you know.. .. the kind where perennials flourish as we cycle and rotate annuals along in rhythm with the seasons of life , the natural organic laws.
I got to work the soil, plant the seed, nourish the sprout, fill the worked bed(s) with happily started plants, and harvest the nutrient dense foods. Much good fortune has come from this opportunity, many plants have found their way either into at one point and have been since harvested, or are still growing in my own organic garden at home.
Along with the great fortune of working on this farm, I was able to bucket up about 8 gallons of incredibly fertile, nutrient dense and well worked over 6 years, certified organic farm soil. This stuff is amazing. The amount of times this soil has been amended is remarkable. Kelp Meal, Gypsum and Loads of Compost, is the recipe that this farm follows. That's all the beds get at each prep before the next planting, oh yea, and cover crops, mustard, grains, legumes, and cloves.
This soil is wonderful, its capacity to hold water is amazing. It is loooooaaaaadddded with nutrients.
Let's get on with it, pull up a chair, grab a glass of your favorite hydration beverage, a nutritious snack, and... uh... Roll One Up?!
September 0x, 2014
I brought the soil home sometime early September, and picked up the cuttings about a week after.
16th - Picked five cuttings. Sour Diesel, Sour Og, Fire Og, Blue Dream & Blueberry
The Diesel and Og's were all about the same size in height, Fire Og was looking tired with heavy purple striping in her main stalk, but was still near the same size as Sour D and Sour Og. Blue Dream just looked wicked cool, with some wild leaves. Blueberry was a tall girl from the get go, she's an interesting one, absolute beauty though, my first true Indica Plant.
Evening of 16th, I transplant each lady into one gallon/1ft tall plastic pots. What follows is remarkable...
Each girl was potted into a unique medium, the base for each was the certified organic farm soil I had brought home from the Farm.
Worm Gold Plus EWC, Elemite (trace minerals), Sea 90 (trace minerals), Gypsum, Kelp Meal, Phyta Grow (Pre-Plant Plus), & Mycorrhizae.
The above listed are what I used overall, and the mix for each girl is as follows (with the base being the farm soil),
Sour D - EWC, Elemite & Sea 90
Sour Og - EWC, Elemite, Sea 90 & Mycorrhizae
Fire Og - EWC, Elemite, Sea 90, Mycorrhizae, Kelp Meal & Gypsum
Blue Dream - EWC, Elemite, Sea 90, Mycorrhizae, Kelp Meal, Gypsum & Phytagrow
Blueberry - Nothing added to the farm soil, just plain organic Farm Soil.
I had initially "set" an automatic timer to run the gas lantern cycle for veg. This went on for three full weeks. What was actually happening was, a few days they would get the appropriate light cycle because I would be around when the lights were supposed to turn on, off, on again and then off and would manually do it, but for the days that I was away, the timer was not consistently working each day. In summary, three weeks of switching light cycles, but these girls pushed on through.
So from the night they were put into one gallons pots and under the gas lantern cycle, Sept 16th until around October 7th, will not be documented. It was just light cycles being inconsistent, and me pondering what was going on with the girls. So, forwards onto the second week of October, I have now switched the lights to an even 12/12 in hopes of just having them ease in flower and be happy from there on.
October 7th, by this time Blueberry is noticeably showing something is up, and I immediately lean towards her needing more medium space, and that's exactly what she wanted. So I carefully cut her out of the plastic pot, I cut the pot as far down as I could to the very bottom and safely lifted/let gravity pull her out, and up-potted her into the same Organic Farm Soil in a 5 gallon felt pot. I did a heavy full watering in and closed up the tent.
Not really too much else to say, pretty much caught up, girls are in full flower, I've added/adjusted light throughout, moved the plants around, re-positioned the equipment as they grew into the space and completed their stretch, but aside from that, just letting them eat the soil and grow.
Specs on the Grow -
4x2x5 Grow Tent
500w Exhaust Fan
Small Table Fan at front of Tent for Intake/Circulation
365w of 2700k cfl
375w of 6500k cfl
135w of led (ufo)
5 Plants - 4 are in 1 Gallon Plastic Pots, 1 is in a 5 Gallon Felt
Vegan Compost Tea for Food (Possibly an occasional watering with just high grade molasses)
Light on at 7pm Pacific, and off at 7am Pacific
I turn off the exhaust when lights are off if I can, the small fan at the front seems to keep the air moving enough and humidity around 50%, I turn on the exhaust if its a rainy day or is quite humid out)
The is the first grow (of my four total) where smell, is quite noticeable, and I welcome that with open arms!
For food, they receive only vegan compost tea's that I brew.
The ingredients of the teas are as follows, 1 cup Boogie Brew Vegan Tea Mix, 5 teaspoons of Sea 90 trace minerals, 2.5 tsp of BioAg Cytoplus with Micronutrients and Kelp, and 5 tbsp of BioAg FulPower Humic Acid (liquid). (For Veg I also add in Pure Protein Cod Fish Hydrosolayte, just a bit too much extra N for flower I've found so far, so I leave it out.)
I brew a tea (4.5 gallons in a 5 gallon bucket), once a week on Sunday afternoon. This way it has a full 28-36 hours to brew and cultivate beneficial life for the soil. I feed about 2/5th to my girls on Monday evening around 7pm, (the rest is left to brew on, and fed to my fruit/vegetable/perennial garden on Tuesday Morning), depending on what time I started the brew on Sunday afternoon... .. it is at least 28 hours of brew time, no later than 3pm will I have a batch going. I also clean the 5 gallon bucket before each brew, I use Dr. Bronners Peppermint and good filtered water. I scrub the entire bucket, inside and let the air stones, and tubing for the air pump soak, while that is soaking I rinse my cloth and wipe the outside of the bucket as well, , full clean here, no chance for a contaminated brew. (Note, I had taken to just wiping the inside of the bucket and rinsing off the air stones for a few brews and was having obstacles with the beneficial microbes birthing, since I did a deep clean and have continued to keep it this way, brews are back up to phenomenal amounts of life form activity.)
November 28th - I made this Grow Journal Post, and will keep it updated throughout the remainder until Harvest. Blueberry, may, need to be harvested before her sister Dream and cousins the Sours and Og. As for what the harvest date will actually be, I keep saying to myself 2-3 weeks, but this time I do feel it to be about 2-3 weeks for the Blueberry and Bluedream, and possibly one or two more than that even for the Sours and Og.
I will post up some pictures for you to look at and comment on now that I have made the journal for this grow.
Thank you for reading my entry, and being here and a part of our personal medical grow. These girls are happy and I am excited to see what they decide to do in their remaining weeks.
