Kite High Memorial Cinderella 99 Grow

Well, I wasn't going to do anymore journals, but on hearing that Kite High is gone I have decided to do one in his honor.

Seeing as he mentored me on my first journal of C99, and seeing as he loved the strain it seemed a fitting thing to do to remember the guy who improved my skills by 100%.

Even more fitting as the plant I am growing sprouted it's first leaves on the day that Kite passed (23/9).

I am using a 250 watt hps and some chilli food called chilli focus and I have topped just above the second node for the 4 cola effect.

I'm currently on day 17 of flowering and will add updates every Thursday from here on to mark each week passed.

Here is how it sprouted

Yes, Twins, very rare. I actually seperated them at this point and put them in individual pots. They both continued growing just fine! Unfortunately my other half only lets me do one at a time :-( So I had to kill one.

The remaining one I vegged for 22 days using the Gas Lantern Routine. A daily light cycle of 12 on - 5.5 off - 1 on - 5.5 off. The point of this is to save electric and heat build up. The mechanics of it is the 1 hour "on" of light in the middle of the night destroys the flowering hormone and keeps the plants vegging.

I have found on the 3 occasions I have done it that plants veg just as fast this way as they do on 18/6. It does not cause hermies.

Here she is after 22 days of veg and topped at node 2 , approx 10 inches and very bushy. I did not need to nute this plant at all as my potting soil comes with approx 3 weeks of food in it.

veg 22.jpg

So to trigger flowering , I just remove the 1 hour of light in the middle of the night. So it gets 12/12. Here she is at 2 days of flowering. You can see she reacted very quickly to the change.

She continued to stretch about an inch a day , here she is at 1 week of flowering, she begins to stink now. Seems to be a bit of skunk leaning pheno or something. I say stink, but its not to bad. Tends to stay contained to the room it's in, though sometimes I can smell it downstairs. Hopefully the buds will smell more fruity than this dank aroma. Nice boxer shorts too.

On to 2 weeks flowering then. The smell getting stronger and stronger. Going to have to go and purchase some odor control. These are the last pics for now

She began to show signs of hunger after these pics. Was getting some N def and Mag Def. So I decided to swap from the biobizz grow I was using and gave her a dose of full strength chilli food yesterday. Well, she looked stunning today, she greened up so amazingly. I got a few leaves twisting to the side a bit, so I will ease back on the dose next time. Hopefully she won't burn on me, but she looked very happy today apart from 2 fans twisting a bit.

Next update on thursday for week 3 of flowering.

Awesome Puff, she looks fantastic :D definitely going to try out this lighting schedule too!!

RIP Kite, you were a good man and will be sorely missed around here. Here's to Puff's girl growing well and looked over by Kite wherever he is :)

She looks good man. I'm subbed up. Not being able to grow a plant for him is making not growing extra hard at the moment.

Thanks guys. Not gonna be able to do pics tomorrow for 3 weeks exactly, so here's a few quickies at lights out on day 20

It seems like I am fighting a losing battle. Still getting yellowing fans. I have upped the N as you can see how dark the plant is overall, I have given epsom salt a few times and gave her some more after this picture. The last dose was about a week ago.. maybe she really is a complete Mag whore..Or maybe she's rootbound...or maybe it's the low light levels down there, a good 45 inches away from the 250 hps and shaded by the higher leaves.

I don't know, i'll just plug away and hope to get a decent harvest. It's a beautiful plant though... might even re-veg it.

She looks ok I suppose. If she finishes better than my last effort which couldn't be hard to do i'll be happy.

Lots of little buds forming everywhere now.. Update on the smell, the smell has actually died down which is a relief. Maybe she was just stinking a bit when she was going mental in the closet growing real fast... now shes slowing down the smell is definitely not very noticeable, which is a big fat win for me! Also decided to rub just under a sugar leaf that has a bit of stickiness to get a smell of how the buds are gonna be.. just wow.. like a tropical fruit shop.

She looks good. How far below the canopy is the yellowing? 45" from a 250W is pretty dark without the shade so I'm guessing it's a penetration issue and you're losing some leaves to lack of light and the plant is catabolizing them. Careful you don't burn her with the higher feed. Also what size container is she in? If it's a "rootbound" issue it just means she's drying out the container too fast and you need to up your watering frequency. I've had to do twice a day. It sucks...

it is all the very lowest fans. But it is progressing, once one fan goes it starts on the next one at the tip and works in. There's a bit of a marbling ,but they are going yellow overall just like N def.

So even though I am pumping in the N , full strength chilli food. 10 mls per liter still seems to not be enough, which couldn't be.

She is in a roughly 2.5 gal pot.. probably not big enough, even at 1 week of flowering there was a carpet of roots coming through the bottom, so i am open to that being the problem.

I did notice one day last week i gave it 2 days between watering instead of 1 and i got a good bit of yellowing. So i think i left her too long. Maybe she will require a feed everyday.. but i'm scared of overwatering

But as you say, and the man himself told me also, the plant will shed what is not being productive.. so ,it might be cool in the end

What kind of medium are you in? As long as you have proper drainage it's pretty much impossible to over water and your description of the problem sounds like something I had with a plant in a too small pot on my last cycle.

Whooot subed , lumi / kite was a ninja.
any one know what happened to the Mexican deathweed I got from mr Ortega an sent to mr illumination kite high?
They were special....

Getting close to locking out the N.

She still looks great Puff, agree with MrEDuck though with the light penetration, i usually keep my 600w between 24-30 inches above the canopy and dont really get the yellowing until last 2 weeks when they are sucking up the N. Have you got heat issues, is that why it's so high? Looking awesome though brother :D

I'm using just potting mix/ soil. It drains great though.

Very interesting theory. My tap water comes out around 7.2. Though Kite told me before that rarely is PH the problem in soil grows, as soil will buffer the ph to it's own..

Mate, I do have issues growing in a closet like I do. It's in my bedroom with no extraction or anything.. so I do get heat build up .. not really bad though as 250 isnt that hot. The plan is to get a tent at some stage.

Hey man looks awesome! I'm also growing C99's. Subbing up!
Hey man thanks.. post me a link if your doing a journal..

Good stuff. Subbed. Didn't know he loved the strain, C99 will be my next grow.
Did kite love c99 Hell yeah. He raved about it the whole time i was doing my first journal.. I don't know for sure but i think this was his last grow.. he just got done with it a few months ago anyway i think..

This is C99 a-la kite ,if only I make it to this level I will die happy.

It was his last completed grow. I don't know if he had started beans for the next one or not before his health took a turn for the worse.

If you have good drainage stepping up the watering shouldn't be a problem but watch how she responds. I find flowering plants in 2 gal pots need watering every day and in 3 gals they can go 2. One of the reasons I want to switch to hempy is so I can use smaller containers to control plant size but not have to water constantly.

After looking at Kite's pics above Puff, I'm not convinced it is a light issue, it looks like Kite had the same issues with his leaves on the bottom. I do remember him saying she's a very Mg hungry strain so maybe you need to up the cal/mg ratio a bit...dunno man, bout the only thing i can think of. A lot of my soil grows get yellowing leaves on the bottom too, so maybe its nothing to worry about, as long as she gives you some bomb smoke :D

your plant looks great. i remember when your last grow went afoul you wanted to make sure you'd be smoking by christmas. looks like that won't be a problem. i finally got my first two cindy plants harvested and i'm now a huge fan. GL

You will usually see Ca/Mg issues in the middle of the plant. It starts with small, punctate rust spots. I don't see that on yours but it's a bit dark so you check for them. My guess that far down, and yellow, is light deprivation. I trim the bottom 12" to 18" off my plant depending on strain, how long I vegged etc....

Also I'd recommend Botanicare's Ca/Mg with Fe. I'm quite pleased with it.
No affiliation etc...

Thanks for all the input guys, taking it all onboard... hey poboy you know my journals as well as I do man lol, Cool that you follow them all, thanks ! If you ever do one you should link me up to it..

Guys, I wasn't happy with those half assed pics i took on day 20. I got a good chance to take her out today and got some better ones. This is day 22. You have to admit Sativas are pretty. She always seems to respond really well within a day to a teaspoon of epsom salt per half gallon of water. The drooping you see on some leaves is because she was just watered .. she always droops for a few hours then perks up again
