Check out the first couple videos in my sig, I give the bars a little attention in there. I have them on a mover, and I've bumped my head on them a couple times. They're pretty solid, I trust them. I'd use a chip holder for anyone else's setup, but I'm comfortable with my soldering to rely on it (I've built enough circuits to be able to solder two wires ) in my own space. But, if you want lenses or reflectors (my future builds will have them), that's not a big deal either. I have mine affixed with klapton tape and a good thermal paste, unless they're getting weird pressure on them (they were, until I found the source and fixed the cables), they should be fine for years.
