Hey as long as it works for you, we seem to agree that theres some ac power going to the driver thru the plug and timer.
The idea of this being by design though, nah, thats not going to be it and i think its better not going there: people read this ages after when something isnt working and might believe this and not take appropriate action in the time frame they have (returns or whatever). Ill have to pushback on moonlight by design but ill leave spock out of it.

If you wanted to change timers the sonoff system seems popular and with bells and whistles (wifi / metering / temp-rh probes) and can be wired rather than plugged.

Timer isn’t the problem since the light stills glows plugged directly into the outlet. The only thing i haven’t tried is plugging the light in a different house.

Oh Master electricians please help. I was hoping that since you all are giving advice on this then you must know what your talking about. I’d hope no one is talking Out of their asses when you may cause someone to get injured.
